SUPPORT FOR THE LONG TERM SLIMMER - 2006

puff · 15/01/2006 20:02

I'm resurrecting this support group on here, as there's quite a few people I've noticed wanting to lose 4 stone or more.

I'm a long term slimmer - been eating healthily for 18 months and lost 7 stone .

I have another 1 or 2 to go.

Whatever eating plan you are following, it's great to have some online support from people in a similar situation, so please say hello on here .

Oh yes, me me me! I was on the original thread and have lost 36lbs over the past 2 years which is pretty rubbish. But better off than on. I now need to lose 4.5 stones and have just re-joined WW and listen to the Paul McKenna CD.

puff · 15/01/2006 20:15

Kittyp - 36 lbs isn't rubbish - well done!!!!

northender · 15/01/2006 20:28

Yep I'm in! 7lbs down only 63 to go!!!

Kittypickle · 15/01/2006 20:29

Well no I guess it's not, but it's pretty feeble in comparison with what you have done ! I am getting closer to size 18s and no more Evans though, hopefully in a couple of months. And I'm really proud of myself for having broken the cycle of losing weight, then putting it all back on again.

Kittypickle · 15/01/2006 20:30

Northener, 7lbs is amazing, well done How have you done that ?

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 20:46

Oh hello puff, blimey, well done, 7 stone is v impressive. I lost about 2 stone with this thread last year and def put it all on again But I have been off booze since 3rd Jan and have been eating healthily and walking as much as possible. I won't be posting my weight but I do like reporting on how I'm doing and finding out how other people are getting on, it really motivated me last year.

moonshine · 16/01/2006 14:08

I'm also an original from this thread which I loved! I've been away from MN for quite a while, but have been trying to catch up(ie lots of lurking in dark corners, scrabbling under stones and peering in windows).

Puff - I've said it before but I'll say it again, you have done amazingly well. I have lost loads of weight but took the easy route (for me) - could never have doggedly done it like Puff without giving up a million times (basically what I used to do). Anyway lost more than 8 stones on Lighterlife last year, and then went a bit mad and decided to catch up on all the things I hadn't eaten for about 6 months. Put on about 18 pounds, but have since lost just over half a stone. My bmi is still officially in the healthy range but want to lost about a stone to get rid of the dreaded muffin top and to give myself a 'comfort' zone. Still, I am so much happier and healthier, having gone from a size 24-26 to size 10-12 (well less of the 10 if I don't lose those extra pounds). I even started wearing size 8 skirts before the extra pounds .

I will be a lifelong dieter no doubt, I have a lifetime of bad habits and indoctrination to overcome. I love my food and there will always be that inner fat girl trying to reemerge.

Kittypickle - since when has losing nearly 3 stones been rubbish???

WW - alcohol is one of my bete noirs. I don't drink a huge amount but it turns my resolve to jelly (or rather chocs, crisps etc ).

Look forward to catching up with old and new 'faces'.

northender · 16/01/2006 19:26

hi kp I've been following roughly the food doctor principles eating 3 smaller meals and 2 more substantial snacks in between, cutting down on carbs with my evening meal and exercising.(portion size is a big issue for me we eat generally quite healthily but I just used to eat far too much!) I'm being quite strict for the first 3 or 4 weeks to give myself a kick start hopefully. Hard work though especially when my ds (4) is eating more than me at some meals!

puff · 19/01/2006 15:12

Great to see some returners to this thread and some new joiners .

So far, I'm having a good week, hope I can keep it up as I'd like to lose 2lbs this week.

Hi! Can I join in as well? I've always been overweight but have managed to lose 3 or 4 stones twice, only to put it back on again... and I wasn't at target weight even after losing that much so, as you can see, I have a "big" problem I am starting yet another "healthy eating" plan and trying to get off my butt and do some exercise (just walking at first as I am incredibly unfit!) so any support would be wonderful. The GI diet looks really good - I bought AWT's GI cookbook and also have Helen Foster's but I really struggle as DH is the fussiest eater you can imagine so anything I cook from either book would be met with horror and quite a few of the recipes don't look as if they could be frozen (can you freeze lentils?!) Puff - you've done so brilliantly on the GI diet (I've lurked on many of your threads!) - do you cook low GI food for all of your family or do you do separate meals for yourself?

Stargazer · 19/01/2006 16:26

Puff - that's absolutely brilliant. You must be feeling so good.

I certainly need to lose more than 4 stone - more like at least 8 stone!! But I've been finding it really hard. I've managed to shift 5 stone and put it back, then 3½ stone and put it back - plus a bit I'm all for a support group here. And I plan on going back to WW as well - I need actual, as well as virtual, support.

puff · 19/01/2006 21:57

Misspiggy, the children eat earlier than dh and I, because of dh's working hours. So, I cook low GI meals for me and dh, although sometimes I'll add say extra potatoes to dh's meal and not mine. Then, there are nights where dh wants to have some stodge eg fish and chips - on those nights, I'll get myself some soup I have made from the freezer.

I freeze lentil soup all the time, and it seems ok.

moonshine, I forgot to say I 100% agree with you about alcohol - it destroys my willpower, even 1 glass, so I don't bother anymore except if we go out (rare!) or special occasions.

You have done so well to keep the weight off . I know you said you've gained some, then lost some, but it sounds like you are stabilising things.

Stargazer - I do feel great. The impact on my health has been enormous. Prior to losing the weight I was facing an operation to sort out a stomach problem. But, since losing all this weight, the symptoms have reduced dramatically and I only need to take the minimum dose of medication. My hospital consultant said if I lost weight it would really help - I had an appointment with her today; she was v pleased with my progress and said she thinks I won't need the surgery now.

Another vote for the alcohol and will power problem! I've cut down drastically for the will power issues rather than the actual calories in the alcohol. We're going to my in laws for 4 days on Saturday, their house is a haven for unhealthy foods so it's going to be tough and I'm taking supplies with me. We have a 40th party on saturday night so I've decided to drive then alcohol isn't an issue, resisting seconds at the party will be though! i'll let you know how I get on. have had a good week though and am hoping for another couple of pounds off when I weigh in on Saturday morning.

Katya · 25/01/2006 09:01

thanks for restarting this Puff. well done on your tremedous losses and keeping it going !

I've lost about 5 stones over 3 years, but been struggling to keep it going over past few months when things got a bit stressy. But getting back into the healthy eating habit now we've moved house, and the dust has settled ( literally ).

I don't have a set goal weight in mind, but would be delighted to get into the 11s and stay there. (under 30 BMI).

I don't exercise as I have severe ME/CFS and just pottering around the house is a draining effort.

I follow the GI principles, and feel much better for not letting my blood sugar levels drop by not eating for ages, then eating somthing fast-burning like I used to.

I'm also getting back into the habit of listening to 'Paul McKenna' cd. I sleep though most of it, but it still seems to work

northender · 15/02/2006 22:10

Is anyone still out there...........? I'm coming up to the end of my sixth week and have lost 19 lbs so far which I'm made up with. It's not been too hard yet but motivating myself to exercise isn't always easy. How's everyone else doing?

bran · 15/02/2006 22:25

Ooooh, can I come back to this thread and hang around at the back shuffling my feet and looking embarrassed please?

I left the long-term slimmers thread almost a year ago when ds came, at that stage I had lost 2 stone with Weight Watchers but I have since put 1 stone back on.

I haven't gone back on a diet, but I'm definitely thinking about it. The WW points thingy worked really well for me, but I'm not sure if it will be as straight-forward with ds around as I used to count all my points on-line as I ate them (either immediately before or after) but I find it much harder to get on-line now.

bran · 15/02/2006 22:27

Everyone else is doing really well btw, especially puff and northender.

puff · 09/03/2006 22:34

Gosh, I forgot I revived this thread !

Katya - you have done so well Smile

Northender - you are doing brilliantly (just read your updated weight loss on another thread) Smile

Bran - hellooo Smile

I've had a "faffy" couple of months, but am back on track - want to lose another stone to 20lbs.
