Am starting DD running tonight, how far should I start her off with?

I've been running forever but DD would like to start with me. I have bought her the kit and she bought herself hi-via jacket and she is ready to go. Not sure what sort of regime to start with though? Thought every other day maybe and starting off just doing 3k with her. What do you fit healthy guys think?

She is eleven and a half.

Could you get anyone to pick you up if you just went out for as far as she could manage?
Otherwise 3k sounds like a reasonable starting point. Make sure she alternates running & walking rather than just walks if she's finding it to far.
At least 2 times a week. 3-4 times a week is plenty.

We have done it before Ruby in the summer - she set off at a canter and then realised she couldn't go any further - slow tortoise mummy was still plodding along.

Think I may just play it by ear and see if she can go slow but steady.

Thanks guys.

DD managed 4.2k - really proud of her especially when I made her sprint the last few yards and it looked like her head was going to explode - but she did it and said she really enjoyed herself.

We are aiming to do the British 10k together in July (I did last year) and maybe then try to do a few more before trying for a half marathon!

Sounds great! Do check though that the event you're aiming for will take under-16s. Would be a great shame to train for it and not have her allowed to enter.
