I need to lose 3st. Started low carbing, very enthusiastically and managed a week before scoffing 7 slices of bread and butter. Now have fallen off the wagon.

Then I decided that I would low carb in the week and eat carbs at the weekend. Unsure about that one!

I find being on a diet so difficult. I decided to low carb as I want the weight to come off reasonably quickly.

I find restricting food so hard. I want the weight off but am just struggling so much.

When on low carb, I miss fruit. When on Weight Watchers, I miss bigger portions. Cant do meal replacement as I miss food. I sound completely mad.

Calorie counting could be the answer, but fear it would take years to get the weight off.

Confused and irritated by myself.....

you could join us on the "intermittent diet" thread. You severely restrict your diet to 650cals 2 days a week when it's v v low carb. However, the other 5 days are "normal". Psychologically, I find this a huge help.
A fair few of us are on it and one person even took part in the clinical trial for the diet and speaks highly of it (and helps us all out by answering lots of qus!)

God, that sounds amazing. Never seen the intermittent diet thread. Sounds like something I could do.

I think your problem is that you want the weight to come off quickly so are taking drastic measures and trying to follow something that doesn't suit you.

I know its a cliche but stop thinking about dieting and start eating regular healthy meals. Watch the portions and fat and only have one treat a day and you'll find the weight will come off. Snack on fruit and low fat yoghurts.

bit of debate on this, I'd rather watch the carbs than the fat (though of course everything in moderation and saturated fat never a good idea)

I recently lost 4 stone 4 pounds and now weigh 9 stone 3 pounds. I never thought about needing to lose 4 stone but just thought in terms of half stone blocks which seemed a lot more realistic and achievable. To begin with I went back to basics. Normal good sized meals and cut all the crap I used to eat in the evening . It took three months to lose a stone. Once I had got rid of my bad habits I stepped things up a gear and cut portion size and most carbs . Weight then came of at about 2 pounds a week. It took 8 months to lose the weight which to my friends seems quick but to me it was just steady 1 to 2 pounds every single week. If I had cut carbs right at the start I would have jacked it in so perhaps you could think of losing weight in stages . Do you have a particular bad habit you could ditch such as chocs, crisps or wine etc and then go from there. I treated myself to non food treats such as candles, bubble bath, new nail varnish or a magazine.
You can do it but think slow and steady. At a pound a week you could have most of the three stone of by the school summer holidays. Good luck.

I agree, healthy meals with a third of the plate vegetables, and restricted processed foods (sugar, white flour etc) will get the weight off slowly and steadily. You need to do some exercise, too - perhaps a walk every day for about 20 mins/half hour?
