I'm big and fat and I'm getting married!

How the hell do I do this?

I've calorie counted on my phone before. I've failed. Weight watchers/slimming world costs too much (am on a budget). Also have fibro which limits theamount of exercise I can do. I have a Kinect sports and dance game?!

I'm getting married in November. I'm 5ft10in and a size 18. I'm 17 stone and change.

Have you been recommended any special diet for your fibro? I've just been doing some reading about it and it seems like going gluten free helps a lot of people with fibro. As does cutting out sugar and food additives such as aspartame, nitrates and MSG. www.webmd.com/fibromyalgia/guide/fibromyalgia-the-diet-connection?page=1

You might feel a lot better if you cut out gluten and processed food and at the very least you'd lose weight.

I'm sorry to say it, but when I asked medics about this I got told that sticking to calorie counting is much more effective than exercise (although that makes you healthier).

Ooh ooh, I am getting married in July and don't want to be a fat bride!! I'm just following weightwatchers and doing more exercise and if it gets closer to the date and I'm still fat then I will be doing a silly crash/starvation diet. I'm currently a size 18/20 and would really like to wear a size 14... doable?? What's your Target partytights?

partytights · 01/01/2012 14:38

I'll be calorie counting (1400 a day - is this too low with little to no exercise?).

I'd like to try gluten free and no sugar. Will give it a shot.

I aim to lose 5 stone and hopefully this will bring me down to a size 12. I've figured if I lose 2lb a week I'll have done it by the end of August which leaves enough time to fit a dress.

I'd say combination of low carb (low sugar, including limiting dairy sugar (lactose) and fruit sugar (fructose) low fat and hypnosis for willpower. Eat only whole foods, nothing processed.

Don't calorie count, just accept certain foods are totally of limits.

I did 1200 a day (ate more if exercised) with low fat low carb and lost 2lb a week (I'm 5 4, so 1400 sounds right if you are taller).

partytights · 01/01/2012 15:12

Can I still eat fruit and eggs daily? I've been planning meals on advance that include a lot of fresh fruit (apples, berries and bananas) and fresh vegetables with eggs for breakfast and as a side for some protein rich evening meals.

I know what to eat and what not to eat in theory but I'll miss cheese and white bread.

Oh god, 1200 sounds hard!! No pain no gain I suppose! Partytights, can I be cheeky and ask if you have your meal plans written up? Just wondered if you would mind sharing a few ideas?

I have a few for the next week.

For dinner tonight I had long grain rice with a turkey curry made of light coconut milk, curry powder, a turkey breast stripped and a handful of cashew nuts.

Breakfast: two scrambled eggs on a slice of wholemeal toast or baked cut up apple with cinammon and porridge made with skim milk but will be changing to soy. It tastes like the inside of a warm apple pie.

Lunch: grilled chicken breast on a bed of rocket with cubed cucumber and tomatoes and a tbsp of extra virgin olive oil. Will change chicken to tuna some days. Also have a butternut squash soup or a carrot and corriander soup lined up to make.

Dinners: steamed vegetables like carrots and beans with a tuna or salmon steak or wholegrain pasta with a tomato and basil sauce and asparagus on the side.

For snacks I'm having fruit like apples and kiwis or a handful of plain cashew nuts.

Haven't got much further than planning a lemon and salmon risotto for the weekend though. Any recipes would be very very helpful.

I'd leave out the wholegrain pasta, unless its a side with protein and a very small portion. Otherwise sounds good.

re: fruit try to stick to one or maybe to start with 2 pieces a day and go for the lower sugar ones like apples pears and berries rather than banana.

Yes, eggs good can eat every day.

partytights · 01/01/2012 23:11

No pasta then. Is there anything I can eat that is filling?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/01/2012 23:15

I would recommend low carbing as the way to go, but it is an all or nothing diet, but if you saw it as 6 months of your life, you could shift loads. We have a low carb thread with lots of very supportive people on. Tis a thought for you!

fortyplus · 01/01/2012 23:18

Don't starve yourself - be realistic. Aim to lose 1lb per week - that's 44lb by the time you get married. Start with small changes - don't go without meals - snack regularly on raw carrot, 5 or 6 nuts, an apple etc. Avoid fried food and pastry. Eat high fibre cereal or porridge for breakfast.

partytights · 01/01/2012 23:30

Low carb. So no rice, pasta, bread, potatoes?

What about fruit and veg? Can I eat that or is it just Dukan?

OP posts:
flamegirl77 · 01/01/2012 23:31

Definitely be realistic and I really wouldn't crash diet at the end because you will be running around with lots to do and will need energy to keep going and to enjoy your day.

partytights · 01/01/2012 23:38

I just really need to shift this weight. I can do moderate exercise but not every day as I have fibromyalgia and it hurts. I need a diet that allows me food to fill me up but lets the weight come off easily.

I'm not worried about chocolate, cakes etc but cheese toasties I love and will miss.

lollipoppet · 03/01/2012 11:32

Thanks, some good ideas there. Will come back and post.recipes when I get organised! I personally don't think I can do low carb, too hard and I will give up! I am going to try to cut out bread though, tis the food of the devil! Will miss cheese toasties too!

foreverondiet · 03/01/2012 19:25

If you need carbs stick to oats, brown rice, quinoa, millet and small portions. Best to fill up with veggies though and not carbs.

Eat loads of veg. Fruit ok but don't overdo...
