Could someone explain to me in simple words how Sw works, red, green, easy etc. I was on WW but they moved venues and was to far to go to and lost impetus and need to get on track.

marking place

I'm keen to find out too, I'm currently trying Rosemary Conley but have seen lots of support for Slimmin World. I actually just bought the mag! I already have RC one and I do find having one to look through really helps the wilpower.

Sorry I can't be any help, but you are asking the question I was thinking of asking myself!

fivegomadindorset · 26/12/2011 19:45

Looks like it's just you and me. There is a meeting next wednesday locally, may trundle along and see if I cna find out without committing.

I only do Extra Easy. It's really simple - there is a list of super free foods and another list of free foods. You aim for 1/3 super free on your plate and 2/3 free foods. Other than that one portion of bread or similar and one portion of dairy per day.

It's worked for me - I've lost 2 1/2 stone.

HTH

Marking place too. Not been on diet but hoping to start slimming world next week.

KTisTIRED · 26/12/2011 20:16

and unlike on ww the free foods includes most carbs (but not bread), all fresh fruit and veg, lean meat, quorn etc so no need to weigh them - you can eat as much of them as you like. I did ww before but am finding sw much easier

fivegomadindorset · 26/12/2011 20:22

That sounds more up my street than WW.

With thr Extra Easy plan all lean meat is free, as is rice, potatoes, pasta..

On the Original (red) plan, your lean meat is all free (free meaning you can have unlimited amount, the only limit is your appetite!)

On the Green plan your rice, pasta, potatoes are all free foods.

On all plans, all your vegetables and fruits are 'superfree' and for optimum weight loss you are recommended to fill 1/3 of your plate with superfree at every meal.

You also have 10-15 syns a dayon top of your free and superfree foods.

But if you're near a group, join up! It's well worth the money for the extra support of your consultant and the group!

I've lost 4 stone, my dh has lost over 3 on the SW plan! It rocks!!

(yes, i'm a SW consultant and I

FairhairedandFrustrated · 26/12/2011 20:25

Your bread and dairy products come under 'healthy extras' which mean they're there for you to get your daily amount of fibre and calcium for the day.

2 slices of nimble or 60g of wholemeal bread/cereal/some soups/oil etc is your Healthy Extra B choice and you can choose from milk or cheese for your A choice.

I've been looking at the magazine and I'm not sure I understand it Confused Unfortunately I can't got to meetings- not to any club, WW, RC or SW. And I'm not sure the 'free' thing would work for me- I seem to lack that thing that says 'you're full' so I eat and eat. I can eat all day! Portion control is the only thing that works. And its a shame because there are so many nice recipes in the little free recipe book, but none of them have a portion size or cal content so I'd end up eating enough for a family of four!

rooksby · 27/12/2011 16:43

Why not do it online? You get access to all the stuff, syn calculator and such, and it's a bit cheaper than the classes too.

rooksby · 27/12/2011 16:44

ps they don't have portion size or calorie content in the magazine because that isn't how SW works. The recipes are generally enough to feed four generously.

normalshmormal · 27/12/2011 17:27

Scarf, I know it's really hard to believe that you can lose weight with no portion control, but all I can say is give it a couple of weeks trial as it's surprising!

Unsurprisingly there's still portion control on wine, bread and chocolate, but being able to eat jacket potatoes etc till they come out of your ears really helps Grin

I second whoever said get to a group if at all possible - for me it's the combo of sensible eating and camaraderie that keeps me on the straight and narrow.

And no, I don't work for them, but I'm going to group tonight (and looking forward to it, rather tragically) to draw a line under Christmas and get back to routine.

Best of luck, whatever you decide to do.

FrigidHare · 27/12/2011 18:45

I know someone who lost 3+ stone on SW using the online service. The biatch.

Marking place also as could do with losing the equivalent of a small child in weight!

RockChick1984 · 27/12/2011 19:02

I started SW to lose my baby weight, I'm also the type of person who just eats and eats and eats with no idea of portion sizes! I lost 6.5lb in the first week alone, despite never being hungry. Because 1/3 of your plate is super free foods eg veg and salad no matter how big your portion you will fill up a lot on this. 2/3 is free food eg pasta potato meat fish etc, then treats are allocated a syn value which is limited to approx 10 a day but can be saved up for a treat or special occasion. I've had to stop going as was £5 a week which I really needed to stop spending but it's fantastic, doesn't feel like a diet as you're not depriving yourself, just feels like a healthy eating regime. If I'm not back to pre baby weight by march I'll be going back as finances should be sorted by then!

Huffpot · 30/12/2011 13:05

Im a SW fan...not been going long and love i can lose weight and eat most carbs to my hearts content!
