And no, I'm not on commission Grin. This time last year I was part-way through LL. I started in September 2012 as a size 22 (in serious denial as I was attempting to wear stretchy size 18s from Planet, which are really size 20s at the best Hmm). One year on and I've stayed size 10/12 since Feb 2011. (I've just uploaded a recent pic at our office Christmas party Xmas Grin.)

Even if you don't do the drastic VLCD route, if you've been wondering whether or not to lose weight and think 2012 might be your year, I say GO FOR IT! I've had a complete new lease of life since I did it and feel soooo much happier and more energetic and cheery (although skint from buying too many new clothes Blush.

Not a constant struggle as such, no, though I am much more mindful of how I look after my body than I used to be.

I've thought very carefully about why I put the weight on originally, and as part of LL I've done lots of cognitive behavioural therapy and transactional analysis, to try to learn more helpful behaviours. It's not a miracle cure - I still chose to go "off road" at Christmas, but I've been a size 10/12 for a whole year now, so I must be doing something right.

The main things I've changed longer-term are: use smaller crockery, take longer over eating and try to work out if I'm full or not (might sound daft to those who have never had a weight problem, but not leaving food on my plate has always been a big issue for me), have a glass of water (sometimes being peckish is thirst), eat fewer refined carbs.

I always had a very healthy diet, I just used to drink too much Xmas Blush and would put too much food on my plate at mealtimes. Two bouts of PND and "comfort" eating didn't help either!

But do you not think that if you used smaller crockery, took longer over eating and try to work out if your full, drank more water, eat less carbs etc etc you'd have lost weight without lighter life?

Ok it might have taken longer but since you need to stick to this now and not go "off road" too much does the time it takes to loose the weight really matter??

That is very Paul McKenna forever which is the healthiest way to eat even if you don't go down the low/less carbs route.

Yes i've also heard that about yr gall bladder on LL be careful it 's unnatural to loose weight so fast.

tonksy83 · 16/01/2012 14:00

Want to lose 3 stones...

MunchkinsMumof2 · 17/01/2012 16:31

I would advise caution with LL, I lost nearly 3 stone in 3 months but ended up with heart palpitations and have put 2.5 stone back on as i had basically starved myself thin. It's expensive and did not work for me.

fivegomadindorset · 17/01/2012 16:34

I know someone who was on LL, she is now doing SW, don't know her that well so not sure if she put it all back on but seems to be ahuge waste of money.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 17/01/2012 16:37

Could be me 5go mad.....I'm doing SW now!

ppeatfruit · 18/01/2012 10:14

As Paul Mckenna says 'Diets make you Fat' esp. VLCD. O.P. you are an exception but take care!!

GoingForGoalWeight · 19/01/2012 17:20

All diets work, depends how one chooses to manage their weight. Dieting never ends. No matter what we follow or how we eat it is still described as diet. I looked at the LL diet. Seemed to me the products are not very tasty as Cambridge and LL is very expensive. I think being in a group is a good idea but when i contacted LL i was not given the choice of calling my local consultant directly. Instead i was given an appointment to visit a group. Also it is not guaranteed the group meeting takes place at the same time every week as group numbers can be very small.
Put me off but I wishCambridge would have group meetings with the psychological teachings too.
