I am the typical yoyo dieter. Tried a few different diets, some worked for a bit some didn't!

I am for the first time in my life too big for any clothes. I had to buy a few new pieces to get me through and now I am afraid they will become the normal clothes in my wardrobe.
So my question is to those who have lost weight, what changed /happened to make the difference?? How did you do it.
I have ten kg to lose by the way!

Diets dont work

Al that works is eating less, and better, and stop eating like a fat person, for the rest of your life.

The Diet industry makes it out to be so complicated, red days for this, green days for that, points for the other

It's all bullshit designed to part you with your cash, and as you can't stay on diets like that forever, you yo yo and then pay ££ to go back to them

And I know I will get flamed by women saying 'I'm an emotional eater, you obviously have never been fat etc etc' (I have) but the bottom line is only eating under your own management can work

IMO Smile

Oh sorry I didnt say what made me change- I got to where you are and hated my clothes and something just sort of clicked in my head and I decided only I could choose what went in my mouth! Felt great when I saw a difference too

Good Luck, hope your head gets in the right place

xmyboys · 17/12/2011 14:46

Thanks cybbo, my head is a mess (along with personal life) and my overall diet as a result. 2012 needs to see me put myself first and get it sorted.
I don't want to follow a particular diet as I want it to just be the norm, if you know what I mean.
What's that rule about habits and the number of times it has to be done or not done?

Exactly like Cybbo - I suddenly thought I can't go on like this. I have been following a diet of sorts - mainly to get an idea of portion sizes I ought to have - but it doesn't have any mad rules, doesn't eliminate any food - it mostly seems a way of relearning how to eat moderately (normally). Now 2 stones lighter and feel maaaaaarvellous.
But definitely agree it's a mindset thing

GypsyMoth · 17/12/2011 15:07

Only diet which worked for me was the divorce diet!!

Stress I guess!

I am changing come new year too. I love exercise and always eat better when exercising. So day after boxing day I am starting the exercise, so by jan 1 I will be in right frame of mind to tackle food issues.

Cybbo · 17/12/2011 16:14

Isn't it doing something 27 times means you will always do it?

fluffy123 · 17/12/2011 16:37

A horrible comment at easter from my DH spurred me into action. I immediately gave up all unhealthy evening snacking then cut meal sizes and a lot of carbs. Now nearly 8 months later I have lost over 4 stone which is 31% of my body weight.

noddyholder · 17/12/2011 17:08

Sometimes if you just stop for a minute before you put it in your mouth and think about how much better you feel slim that is enough! I have started thinking about what I am eating every time I reach for something and have lost about 4lbs this week! I think I was of the mind that I could eat what I like and how dare my body get fat but that was the kind of thing I got away with in my 20s and now it just won't wash! I also find that as soon as I see results and actually feel better health wise I am spurred on. Start with the real rubbish like crisps and chocolate snacky things and just eat real food in moderation

xmyboys · 17/12/2011 17:28

Well done for the great losses girls!
It is such a headgame isn't it?
Like the idea of thinking before it goes in the mouth or more like thinking beforeit is even bought/orderedSad

Don't think it as being on a diet.
Don't think of it as being deprived of 'nice food'.
Allow yourself a small treat now and again eg a small piece of cake, a couple of biscuits. Learn not to scoff the whole packet.
Eat smaller portions, using a smaller plate really helps.
Eat less /none processed food. Cook from scratch. Learn how to cook your favourite foods in a healthier way, rather than eating what a 'diet plan' tells you to eat.
Make sure your diet is balanced ie decent protein, carbs , small amount of healthy fats. Plenty of veg and some fruit.
Increase your general activity levels - walk more, drive less. Climb stairs instead of using lifts etc.
Find some exercise /training that you actually enjoy doing.
Have fun. You will start to feel healthier and more energetic.

fatlazymummy · 17/12/2011 19:08

Sorry I should have said I have lost weight myself, 3 stones 5 pounds so far [19 pounds to go to healthy BMI].
Hand on heart, it hasn't even being a hardship. I don't feel hungry or deprived, I enjoy my food and I enjoy exercising [well, most of the time] .
One other tip, don't give up if you hit a plateau or even put a bit on. Just stick with it, you will get there as long as you are eating healthy food and exercising. This is what has really made the difference for me this time.
Good luck!

I lost nearly 4 stone after DS2 as my mum make a horrible comment (although I wanted to lose the weight anyway).

I cut a significant amount of carbs from my diet and I now realize that although I eat more now, what I eat has changed permanently. Have been maintaining now for 6 months.

I never eat breakfast cereal for breakfast, I never eat sandwiches for lunch, and I never eat pasta for dinner (and I rarely eat rice or other carbs for dinner).

Cybbo · 17/12/2011 20:35

Agree nodders 'mindful' eating is key, not stick your head in the biscuit tin and surface after 5 minutes

noddyholder · 18/12/2011 22:26

I am finding it do able ATM not sure why.hope it lasts!

xmyboys · 26/12/2011 21:20

If you try the Harcombe diet you feel so much better eating non-processed food and the weight loss is quick to start off with so quite motivating. I have been in better shape mentally and physically since being on it (last August). Have lost 10 kilos and really feel the difference if I go back to eating crap again. My brother who has been overweight for most of his adult life has lost 3 stone on it and feels and looks brilliant.
