Is Slimming World online worth it?

Looking for some advice on whether SW online is any good before I spend £60-odd of my hard-earned cash on it!

I am currently at the top end of a size 14 and would like to get back down to the bottom end of a 12 iyswim. I think that aiming for a 2-2.5 stone loss is achievable but I need some motivation and ideas as I've never really 'done' a proper diet before!

Don't really want to join a group as it will be tricky to get to so the online programme seems like a good plan.

Is there anyone who has done it/is doing it that can give me some pointers on how to make it work and stick to it?! Smile

I've just had a look and I'm abit miffed as to why it's £60 and you don't even get the food optomising books (which is the whole point and handbook of the diet)

Probably a cheaper way is to join a class and get all the gubbins and then don't bother going back. That will save you at least £50+ Shock and you will also have explained to you face to face how the diet works. (It can sound complicated)

You will get the optomising books (which if read from cover to cover do tell you everything you need to know

You could even buy the syn directory there with all foods (literally) with the syn values.

You could then just buy the SW mag monthly (from most good newsagents/supermarkets) for extra ideas and info

You wouldn't get online access, but to be fair it's not that great. If you are on facebook there is a million and one pages to join

and you could also browse these pages for tips or post if you needed.

It is a good plan - I lost 2 stone quite effortlessly a few years back.

But.......I don't get how they can charge you £60 for you not to get the main book?

My top tip is have weekly menus planned, shop for it and when you go to the kitchen, know what you are going for, don't rumage. Smile

Thank you both- very useful info, I shall definitely be checking out the link.

I have been looking on eBay and found quite a few people selling their SW starter packs so I think I will get one of those and use an app to track weight etc.

So glad I posted here rather than spending £60 and being disappointed with what I got! Grin

I am doing it online, and I find being able to look up the "syn value" of foods very useful, as well as some of the other features.

I use it in conjunction with a support group on here though, which is very very good. The thought of getting to a meeting with a 2.5 year old and 11 month old gives me the willies!

Almost lost 4 stone now, so it's working...

Just be careful with ebay - folk sell their stuff for £££££ and even if you had to pay a joining fee you can get it for a tenner.

Like I said - If you also buy a syn directory -(please get from a class though as they change all the time and you don't want to buy an old one) you should be good to go :)

Furball · 11/11/2011 15:40

meant a tenner for total of joining fee and first class.

Some people are taking the p* on ebay

lemonbonbons · 11/11/2011 20:38

I ve got a old pack if you would like it ?

X

archfiend · 12/11/2011 12:31

Thanks, I've managed to find one for £12 inc postage so I will wait until that arrives and then hopefully get going! Have also bought a copy of the magazine which has some good recipes.

Lemonbonbons-thank you but I've already bought it now! Really kind of you to offer though Smile

I'm going to give it a go at home and if I get stuck may end up joining a class. Wish me luck!

Good Luck !
When you weigh in weekly at home . Try to do it when another adult is there. It is TOO easy to get off plan if you know your the only one that will see when the scales say !

I'm doing it for the 3rd time !!!!!! And have list a stone in 5 weeks - so im pleased to tell you that you will peob be over a stone lighter by Xmas Grin

lemonbonbons · 12/11/2011 19:57

Sorry about my spelling mistakes - I use my syn s on vodka Blush

archfiend · 12/11/2011 22:21

Grin that really made me chuckle, thank you!

Good point re the weigh ins-I shall try and make a point of at least telling dh I am going to weigh in even if I have no intention of telling him what I weigh just yet
