Healthy snack ideas

I need some suggestions as I am often hungry and lacking in energy and want sugar. I would like to cut it out, so far I eat things like oatcakes or carrots and hummus. What other things do people eat?

Have you tried protein-based snacks? E.g. chicken, egg, yoghurt, fish, nuts etc (I find eating high protein foods makes me feel fuller).

If I'm really craving sweetness, I look at portion size as well as the nutritional values - a mini milk lolly is 30 kcal.

I don't eat meat but eggs are a good idea. As are nuts. I just need more variety as I eat loads of oatcakes all the time. I am trying to stay away from sugar if I can, not easy though!

Fat-Free Greek Yogurt. Get the best one you can afford...it's really thick (like whipped cream, almost) and fills you up like nothing else. If I have some in the afternoon I often don't feel hungry for dinner. It's a bit magical.
You can get flavoured ones or get plain and top with a little honey or maple syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon. Vanilla yogurt mixed with a little pureed pumpkin and cinnamon is really delicious too.

Protein definitely the best way to go. Do you eat fish? Some spicy cooked king prawns or small tin of tuna if so?

Or:
Miso soup
Small skinny latte with cinnamon on top
Couple of squares of dark choc
Half a small avocado
Slice or two of malt loaf
Raw nuts but no more than a palmful a day (good fats but still high fat, see also avocado...)

I make a zip sandwich bag with tiny tomatoes (very sweet) and carrots and/or cucumber/celery pieces. Easy, tasty, sweet and filling Smile
