I have struggled with my weight since childhood and am back up to my heaviest. If I take something upstairs I am out of breath and I have no energy. The thing is I have been here so many times before I have lost count and never ever found a solution. Like many families we are having to watch the pennies so really don't think I can afford slimming club but the only way I have managed to lose weight before has been with the help of a club. I love baking for the family but my teenage daughter could do to lose some weight too so know I am not doing them any favours. Basically I am at a loss as to how I can ever be a healthy weight.

Hi

There is a good thread that is on going on here at moment with quite a few of us doing a programme called my fitness pal.

If you google my fitness pal it should come up and is really easy to set up and it's free.

MFP will advise you how many calories you should eat to lose weight, you then log all food and drink and it adds it all up for you. If you do exercise you put this in as this awill add to calorie allowance.

I used to be a I cant lose weight without a slimming club but MFP has changed that and is free and you still get support by adding friends or even following and logging on the MFP thread on netmums.

I had 5.7 stone to lose and have managed a loss of 1 stone in 6 weeks on this, only another 4.7 to go lol but will get there.

The key is you do need to exercise, I used to hate exercise but am really enjoying it. Am currently doing couch to 5k through NHS podcast and also use my Wii Fit and Wii just dance 2 workout.

Asda is brill at moment as majority of fruit only £1.00 and food is pretty much affordable in Asda. I now make sure I have breakfast, Lunch and dinner and drinking water through out the day. I don't eat any different not really, will substitute chips etc for a jacket potato but my portion sizes have reduced and like I said I eat 3 times per day now rather than just tea time where I would have seconds on big portions and then chocolate later in evening whilst watching tv.

Friday or Saturdays depending on what i'm doing I have treat days and this is when I will have a takeaway and a coupe of glasses of cider so i don't feel I am going without completely so have not bored of it.

I know it is tough at times but you can do, just try and pre plan your weekly meals by writing them down and if you have a Wii do the exercise once everyone in bed or when nothing on tele.

Good luck :-)

Cutting out snacks saves money.

Try to eat 3 meals a day and maybe something small mid afternoon.
Buy fruit and veg that's on offer.
Keep your meals low fat and reduce your carbs.
Go walking.
Post on a thread here. :)

Good luck!

Also don't think about losing weight and going on a diet.
Try to think of this as improving your health. You need better nutrition for your health. You need to improve your fitness for good health.
You get better nutrition from making better choices for your meals and including more fruit and veg in your diet.
It's fine to have a bit of your baking every now and then, and even every day if it's not a huge amount.

I will look up my fitness pal thanks. I think you are right TheWorldKeepsSpinning about seeing it as improving health rather than going on a diet. Thanks for the tips folks

I've just started doing SW at home today, I won't be going to class. Do you think My Fitness Pal would work well with this plan???

Myfitnesspal is free. Don't really understand why anyone pays for slimming clubs.

Back on basics on diet. The following foods are relatively cheap.

Tesco value chopped tomatoes, frozen broccoli, frozen mixed veg, etc.
Chicken/turkey breasts. Tesco value eggs. Tinned fish like sardines. Tesco value cottage cheese and bit pots of fat free yoghurt (1kg) for £1 which last me all week. Pulses.

No convienience foods or processed snacks. No baking. Aim to cut food quantities and food bills in half.
