can yuo join a club? I am doing Slimming World and it's brilliant.

bunny2 · 11/11/2005 21:54

I eat loads and can drink alcohol/eat chocolate etc. It is a really good way of eating.

starlover · 11/11/2005 21:55

it's really difficult when everyone else in the house is eating what they want isn't it?

the first thing i did was cut out ALL snacking between meals. It takes a LOT of willpower though!

Practice portion control! don't eat until you feel stuffed, just have enough to sate your appetite

Make sure you are eating healthily. Plenty of fruit and veg. Mash or boiled potatoes instead of chips etc etc
Maybe you could go with your mum when she does she shopping and make sure she gets enough stuff for at least you for the week that is healthy! If you volunteer to cook a few times a week then you can make sure you all get a healthy dinner

If you're hungry between meals your first thing should be a glass of water! very often we mistake thirst for hunger and eat instead!

mmmm, def drink more water.

There is a slimming world thread - you could join us if you like and I'll explain briefly how the diet works. It sounds a bit complicated but is dead easy once you get the hang of it.

starlover · 11/11/2005 21:57

you don't need a club! it IS easier if you have support, but it is certainly do-able without paying someone to tell you what to eat

staceym11 · 11/11/2005 21:57

i dont drink alcohol anyway really so thats that one, do about 2 1/2 hours a day (on average) hiking up and down peoples steps/drives delivering/collecting avon and betterware books so think excercise is dealt with!

how does the slimming world diet work?

basically you choose either a red/original day OR a green day.

On red days all lean meat, fish, fruit and most veg (excluding peas, potatoes, corn and parsnips) are free. that means you can eat as much as you want (to feel full not to feel stuffed).

On green days pasta, rice, potatoes and all fruit and veg are free so you can eat loads of vege currys etc.

Each day you also choose 4 Healthy Extras (milk, cheese, wholmeal bread etc) and around 10 -15 "syns". Syns are the foods we all like but should limit ie alcohol, cake, choclate etc. Within your daily syn allowance you could ahve, say, 4 rich tea biscuits or a bag of chocoalte buttons, or a couple of glasses of wine.

Look at the slimmingworld.co.uk webby for more info and some sample menus. I really like the diet as there is no weighing and measuring. I I am loosing half a stone a month and feel really good.

staceym11 · 11/11/2005 22:07

thanks bunny thats great will have a look, i really need this as ttc and its not working, yet everything is the same as with dd except my weight (age no problem as only 18) so hopefully this will help in that department!!!

it is really working well for loads of people I know. Basically, you end up eating more fruit and veg and less cakes! It is healthy and effective. It will be nice to see you on the otehr thread.

If you have no money, I know it's a cliche, but walking is brilliant. I lost 4 stone after having my daughter just walking the dogs with the pram 1 hr a day. I also joined a post-natal class, which admnittedly cost £2 a week, but I made 5 brilliant friends there, who I am still in touch with after nearly 2 years and daughter no.2!! I also developed an interest in cooking- decided after daughter 1 that having dieted all my adult life, and my weight going up and dow like the proverbial yoyo, wsa going to quit the dieting and cook good food that I would enjoy- makes a huge difference, don't feel the same need to snack at all. Know you live at home, but this could be a way to earn brownie points and score some baby-sitting!! try buying Good Food mag or similar for easy ideas. Good luck!
