that I can eat?

Not eggs and not cooked.

Is cereal with fruit the way to go?

I alternate between 3 different breakfasts, all of which are healthy and have helped me lose weight.

  1. two eggs cooked. Pus fat free yoghurt.

  2. oat porridge made with skimmed milk

  3. smoothies made with fat free fruit yoghurt, a punnet of blueberries or some strawberries and a scoop of hemp powder (protein)

All three breakfasts have protein in them which is vitalmto keep you full until lunch. All are very low fat. All come in under 300 calories. Closer to 200.

Depends if you are going low carb. I personally think low fat high protein breakfasts are v healthy, I have eggs, sometimes have fish. But if you don't want cooked or eggs, other choices are:

  1. Low fat greek natural yoghurt with berries and 25g muesli (choose one low in sugar higher in protein low GI)
  1. DH had whey protein powder with cocoa powder. He takes it to work to drink all morning.

Personally I think high protein (eggs / fish) is the way to go! I personally think cereal is high in carbs, high GI and often high in sugar. Until 4 months ago I had cereal with skimmed milk every morning, varied which one, and was always hungry by 10.30am. Now with a protein breakfast I'm fine until lunchtime.

I am low carb so have a shaker of whey protein powder mixed with lacto free milk or often odd things like cooked chicken wrapped in lettuce!

Porridge-all the way.
Good for you, warming, filling and cheap.

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 21/05/2011 23:45

Calorie counting, not low carbing. Low carb is tricky for me as I am a fairly strict vegetarian.

Porridge and fat free greek yogurt seem to be the way to go

Pus fat free yogurt! Shock sounds erm tasty..... Grin

I have found the breakfasts that are good for you taste like cardboard :(

brighthair · 21/05/2011 23:46

calorie counting I would go for porridge. I find it really filling - maybe because it's warm? and oats are slow releasing so should keep you fuller for longer
I got an Irish brand which is good as you just measure 1/2 cup oats to 1 cup milk and it's easy!

What?!?! You mean I can't use Oatso simple?!?

I think the plain flavour would be ok - but just double check calories on back of packet and have a compare to normal oats

foreverondiet · 22/05/2011 12:59

Just check no added sugar - probably only the plain one ok.
