Calorie counting isn't working - do people's bodies react differently to diet?

I'm within my healthy range but I'd like to be around 8lbs lighter. I tried low carb and it worked a treat, lost 6lbs within two weeks but I just can't keep up that way of eating, it was torture!
So I joined MyFitnessPal and I'm sticking to 1200 calories a day but I'm not loosing anything! I'm stuck at 10st8lbs and nothing I do seems to make a difference. From past experience, calorie counting and generally eating little never did work for me. But everyone else seems to have great experiences of myfitnesspal!
Do you reckon everyone's bodies react differently to various types of diets? Am I going to have to ditch the carbs? Sad

IME, I could only get my weight down (once in healthy range already) by cutting down on carbs (not no carbs though) - used MFP - low carb and 1200! But its short term as seem to be able to maintain weight with a few more carbs in diet.

And yes, all calories are not equal and what works for one doesn't necessary work for all.

Why was low carb torture?

Exercise to boost your metabolism?

Can you ditch the 'obvious' carbs rather than going no carb, but replace them with things that are healthy but that you properly enjoy, so much so that you don't actually notice you aren't having carbs? I've been struggling with the last few lbs for ages, and have substituted my sandwich at work for home made soup and trying out new recipes that do not centre around pasta and it's done the trick. I'm not saying I'm never going back to pasta dinners and sandwiches, but think I'll be more sparing with them now.

Also, have you been religiously sticking at 1200? Perhaps vary it a bit just so your metabolism isn't getting stagnant (is this the wendi method and also similar to Body for Life?). A treat day where you go over every now and again might help boost you. It is also worth thinking about the kinds of calories you consume - when I first started counting (I use Food Focus which I think is similar to MFP) and at first got a bit giddy thinking 'ooh 189 calories left, I can afford to have a Crunchie' when I actually I shouldn't have.
