Pig to Twig - does it work?

bubaluba · 07/05/2011 08:14

I am fed up of being a stone overweight and want to get rid of it! My BF is getting married at the end of August and I already have beautiful dress I could wear (save buying a new dress I can't afford) only problem is it is too tight! I've just read From Pig to Twig and it all seems to make sense but before I embark can anyone share their success/failures?

I am a stone and abit over weight and I find it difficult to stop myself from eating something yummy. Take a photo of the dress you want/ have and put copies on the fridge/food cupboard to remind yourself not to over eat.

foreverondiet · 07/05/2011 22:26

Most diets work if you stick to them!

theothermrsclooney · 07/05/2011 22:35

Good idea about the dress. Thanks!

Rooble · 07/05/2011 22:41

I lost weight but largely because after about day 3 I wanted to vomit at all the meaty fatty food. I hated the lack of fruit, got really constipated in spite of the supplements (diet can't be healthy if your body needs all those supplements, can it?).
The moment I stopped the weight returned....

foreverondiet · 07/05/2011 22:51

I tried it too and I agree with Rooble - I was constipated and felt sick eating the fatty food. I was drinking that psylium husk supplement twice a day as well. I missed the fruit too. However I did it for 2 weeks and did loose.

I lost weight though on my amended version of a low carb diet - low fat, high protein, loads & loads of vegetables (even carrots and parnsips!), lots of low fat dairy, and 3-5 pieces of fruit (only apples or berries though) a week, plus dukan style oatbran. No constipation either.

theothermrsclooney · 08/05/2011 09:22

I am worried about the lack of fruit. I am starting it today but am intending to stick to chicken and fish as much as possible. I will see how it goes and may well tailor it as you did foreveronadiet.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 08/05/2011 09:30

It will work as long as you stick to it for life.

SpotsMumSally · 08/05/2011 11:00

I have been doing it and have lost, but I am starting to do a lower fat version of it (I am waiting for the Dukan book to arrive).

I don't like the cream and butter aspect of it and haven't really consumed as much of it as you are supposed to.

foreverondiet · 08/05/2011 13:24

I tried dukan too, but it still does not allow fruit and every second day no vegetables either! But he does allow a massive amount (675g) of fat free dairy a day, but he only allowed low fat protein so no fat and he does allow carrots and parnsips as long as not huge amounts.

So that was my compromise - some fruit (not every day and low sugar fruit only), fat free dairy and low fat protein and vegetables (all types) every day. I didn't eat red meat every day - mainly dairy, eggs, fish and chicken but maybe meat a couple of times a week.

So now I am on maintainance..... am gradually adding low GI carbs and more fruit.

theothermrsclooney · 08/05/2011 17:50

How much weight did you loose forever and how long did it take?

foreverondiet · 08/05/2011 18:14

hi theothermrs I lost a total of 47 pounds, from 12 5 to 9 0.
Took just under 6 months. Original target was 9 10 though and this took 4.5 months. I was overweight from pregancy and breastfeeding and eating too much ice cream Smile

Started off doing tesco diets totals plan - I guess a bit like WW (but I think stricter). Plateaued at around 10 5 - ie with just over half stone to go.

Tried both dukan and IPD and then read south beach which made most sense to me - so followed my amended version of dukan and lost last lot of weight.

ilovearnold · 08/05/2011 18:43

forever on a diet- please could you share what you did- yr ammeded formula ?? ta x

Tortington · 08/05/2011 18:45

its based on low carb meals. i lost 4 st low carbing. see my blog www.carbfree.wordpress.com

IslaValargeone · 08/05/2011 18:58

Can't you just eat a little bit less of everything?

foreverondiet · 08/05/2011 19:26

ilovearnold - my amended version of dukan was basically only doing one protein day a week as they constipated me and I don't think just eating protein is particularly healthy! I also allowed myself some fruit, but not every day and only fruits like melon, berries and apples which are not so high in sugar. I ate quite a lot of dairy but did look for yoghurts etc which a low lactose content eg greek yoghurt/cottage cheese. I also used MFP and kept to the recommended limit (1200 calories) - sort of my trade off for eating the fruit and not doing only protein every 2nd day. I also did a lot more exercise 3 full on gym sessions a week and some shred.

Typical day:
breakfast 2 egg omelette (with spray) 150g greek yoghurt with oatbran
lunch tin mackeral, and lettuce/tomato/cucumber/pepper salad with homemade yoghurt dressing
dinner 150g chicken breast and huge quantity of vegetables. maybe also vegetable soup.

If I was hungry mid morning or mid afternoon would have either more yoghurt, cottage cheese or fruit or latte (skimmed milk) or 30g nuts (he doesn't allow nuts as too high in fat).

So low carb but not ketosis diet like IPD.

theothermrsclooney · 20/05/2011 22:24

foreveronadiet, thank you for your posting across the high protein/low carb threads and congratulations on your impressive weight loss!

I have been following IPD for 12 days and although I have lost 7lbs, I don't feel great. I am constipated and despite drinking plently of water have headaches (still, so much for them passing after 5 days!) and feel thirsty. I really miss fruit even though I am eating plenty of veg. I have read your version and will adapt to it tomorrow and see if I feel any better.

deliciousdevilwoman · 20/05/2011 23:25

Hi,
I have been on it for 12 days and have lost 10lbs. I am not suffering from constipation (and I confess, I am not taking the psylium husk supplement!-although I do need to get around to getting it. The other supplements, I already had) I do feel "headachey" although I am drinking lots of water. I never thought I'd be able to manage without bread-I have tried various low carb diets before, and usually cracked after day 4-5, but I am feeling satisfied with no energy dips. My blood sugars seem more stable, and I was/am a carboholic.

Yesterday, I had
Breakfast: 2 organic sausages fried in a small amount of oil, scrambled eggs made with a little cream, 2 grilled rashers of back bacon and a grilled Portobello mushroom with half a grilled tomato.

Lunch: Ham and rocket salad with a little stilton and 1 tablespoon of mayo

Snack: small handful of hazelnuts

Dinner: Chicken stirfry (inc spring greens, beansprouts, peppers) flavoured with ginger and a little lemon

theothermrsclooney · 21/05/2011 07:32

well done devilwoman that's an impressive loss! One of my (slightly obsessive) recommended fybrogel so I'll get some today. Which mayo are you using? everyone I look at contains sugar so I have steered clear.
