Not shifting a pound....

Have been dieting like a crazy woman the last 2 months and not shifting much weight at all. Jeans still very tight on hips, legs, bottom. Am spinning, doing free weight 3 times a week, no carbs (beige food) and no wine Mon-Fri. Starting back at work on Monday and still have a stone of baby weight to loose (DS born in Dec) and don't fit into any clothes.
Any suggestions on what I can do would be great as getting really fed up.

Are you monitoring calories/portion sizes? Try something like MFP or tesco diets totals plan (need to pay for this although its not that much and they do provide support).

I would suggest Weight Watchers or Slimming World. It's so easy to eat more then you think you are (whenever I cut out chocolate I always end up eating more crisps etc) Following one of these plans helps you make healthier choices.

TheGoddessBlossom · 05/05/2011 12:52

Sorry to appear unsupportive but the only answer is to eat less.

QuackQuackBoing · 05/05/2011 13:00

TheGoddessBlossom It's not quite as simple as that! The OP needs to record what she is eating as it's easy to forget and think you've had less, and think about what types of food she's eating. If she eats less but instead of a massive salad she has a small portion of chips she isn't going to get anywhere. Why come on a dieting thread and tell someone to just eat less. Well I'm sure that didn't occure to her! (That's sarcasm by the way)

Why not sign up to myfitnesspal, make your diary public, log everything you eat for 2 weeks and then ask us to comment.

Because as others say its hard to comment based on what you said without just saying eat less, and move more.

headfairy · 05/05/2011 14:15

I would second myfitnesspal, I'm not making my entries public, but keeping a food diary is the single most effective way of losing weight imo... you can't hide away from bare facts. Also it's available as a phone app so you can do it when you're not near a pc and keep track of things while out and about.

Oh and my only rule when trying to lose weight is have at least one day a week when you eat exactly what you want. Otherwise your body will go in to starvation mode and hold on to fat longer. I usually make mine a sunday because we usually have a big family Sunday lunch, but you can always move it about a bit. This week it's Saturday as we're having family over for dinner and I want to have pud :o

Mind you, I am much better at dishing out the advice than I am at losing weight :o

80% food and 20% exercise, reduce your food intake and keep the exercise the same and make sure you have your meals after you have exercised.

fedupofnamechanging · 05/05/2011 18:15

I went on one of those sites that works out exactly how many calories you should eat in order to lose weight. I also log everything I eat on MyFitnessPal.
I have cut down on portion sizes, cut out alcohol pretty much completely and given up diet drinks.

I do very little exercise [lazy cow emoticon], but am losing slowly but steadily.

I have also changed almost entirely the type of food I eat. I use the low cal sprays for frying and eat a lot more vegetables. Very little bread, no pasta or rice, few potatoes.

Home made soups are filling and low fat (if you don't add cream) and I eat things like eggs for breakfast.

Got to be honest, it can be very boring and is hard to keep going sometimes.

karmabeliever I'm with you on this one, I don't think giving up beige food, doing some spinning and giving up wine in the week would necessarilu be enough. For me more more drastic changes were needed to loose weight.

Hi Ladies - I use livestrong.com to mointor my calorie intake and excerise. Meant to be eating 1200 a day inorder to shift 2lbs a week, I do go over a couple of times a week. I eat mostly salads/ eggs/ youghurts/ fruit, no chocolate or crisps and cut right down on cheese (now low fat).
