A question on porridge

I need your help with a quick question regarding breakfast cereals.
I have just started my GI diet. I don?t have a book but looked at all threads and advice on MN. I bought some Bran Flakes thinking they are OK and, full of good intentions I had some this morning.
I have decided to do some search on the internet and just discovered that Bran Flakes have a GI index of 74
I now want to buy some porridge instead, but as I never had it before, I really don?t know what to buy. Can you please advice me on some brands that I can find on the supermarket shelf ?
Thank you so much !

Can't go wrong with Scotts porridge oats, sure the supermarket own brands are ok to!

i have bought two little pot of quick porraige this week, as am not sure if i will like it. seemed to make sense to buy a little pot or 2 to try rather than a whole pack. will let u know tomorrow.

You'll be fine with anything that just says "porridge oats" on it - try to avoid quick cook porridge oats as these have been stripped of their husks which raises the GI.

misdee · 03/11/2005 16:24

oops lol. scrap that idea then. but i have notice peter left some scotts pooaige oats on top of the cupbaord, so if i do like it then i can eat those as well

Oh, I forgot to say, I need to be able to cook in the microwave at work. I never have time for B/fst at home as I start work very early and ds needs dropping off at nursery.
Can I cook porridge oats in the microwave ?

yes but they do tend to bubble up a lot so make sure you use a deep bowl!

We buy Flanagans oats in teascos and they're very nice.

Flahavans Irish Oats from Tescos, 2 min in microwave, chuck in some chopped dried apricots - heaven! I go to bed dreaming about my brekkie - sad dieter that I am!
