Can anyone tell me anything about detoxing?

Or is it a load of rubbish? Is it something to do with drinking lots of water?

Isn't that what your liver is supposed to do?

Yea, I like the sound of them but unfortunately Isla's right: our bodies are designed to flush out toxins all by themselves. My best mate is a dietician and has rolled her eyes at me whenever I've mentioned them, so I stay quiet now Grin

Nowt ever wrong with upping water and fresh veg though Smile

Well if you want to give up smoking or drinking then you STOP of course but to help the body do it's job go to bed for 2 days (cos you will feel SXXX) and eat just fruit and drink water it removes the toxins quicker!

My DH did the above and it totally removed his cravings for nicotine. he hasn't touched a fag for 30 yrs!

The whole thing about your body being chock full of toxins, and needing to starve yourself on an diet of boiled water and lemon juice - yep, it's a load of rubbish.

What I have found useful though is a "detox" where I have a super, super healthy week. No sugar at all, no alcohol or caffeine at all, no butter, no crap of any kind, nothing with white flour, you get the idea. I also give up TV and go to bed early.

You'd find it hard to keep it up for longer than a week, but that's not the point. It's not for life, it's to get me into the mind set of looking after myself again. After the week, I seem to have broken the habits of the biscuit (or two or three) mid-afternoon, the glass of wine and the little snack before bedtime, that kind of thing.

Thanks everyone - I just feel a bit run down and want to feel more healthy/have more energy. I've got a bit of time off work and MrsTittleMouse post is exactly the kind of thing I want to try - just nurture myself a bit and restore a bit of balance. Tried yesterday cutting caffeine out (big thing when I'm at work) and having salad/fruit and lots of water - I actually did feel better after just the day. Nice long walk in the sunshine helped!
