Ideas for low carb packed lunches?

Hi - I'm just starting low carbing this week. I need ideas for lunches I can take into work. I generally eat at my desk (so nothing smelly IYSWIM!)

We have a microwave at work.

Thanks Grin

No bread. Tinned tuna salad? Fruit salad with natural yogurt poured over (if only to disguise the taste Grin) Soup.

I am obsessed with Parma ham, I eat a packet for lunch everyday quite often. Babybels are also handy, and I get Graze box delivered every week. I find snacking really good when low-carbing - be sure to drink loads and loads of water.

Phooey what are you eating in the graze boxes that fit lo carb?

foreverondiet · 04/04/2011 22:22

I have been having fromage frais mixed up with tuna.

Either tuna low fat cheese / cottage cheese / chicken / eggs with salad.

Hucking you can block certain items, so I've blocked the focaccia breads and the flapjacks. I usually get nuts and seeds, some olives and dried fruit. The dried fruit didn't jeopardise my diet as they were such small portions there's no temptation to have a sugar binge. I also snack on Mullerlight yogs (vanilla only) and dark chocolate (couple of squares).

As with any diet, variety is the spice of life, this worked for me - I don't feel hungry eating like this. I've lost the weight and now eat carbs in the evening, but stick to low-carbing at work as I can avoid a mid-afternoon dip Smile

forever you shouldn't go for 'low-fat' items when low-carbing, you need the fat for energy and they will be full of sugar to compensate, or sweeteners which will impact your blood sugar in the same way, causing cravings. Especially if this is your main meal - a more fatty protein would be better.

phooey - I tried low carb/high fat and it did not agree with me. I craved dairy and I was totally constipated. Also I couldn't bear to eat high fat foods (mainly as in the past I have avoided as they trigger my IBS). I eat some healthy fat eg avocado / olive oil /oily fish / nuts (small portions though) but I will not eat any saturated fat (fatty meat, cream, butter) as several family members have high cholestrol. Think south beath diet very sensible.

I then found dukan which is low fat and low(ish) carb but he requires oatbran each day which solves the constipation prob as he allows low fat dairy as long as no sugar added. I do have vegetables every day though (he recommends only eating protein which I think is too extreme). In terms of diet coke/sprite - I'd rather cave and have one than eat something very calorific. But yes these diet drinks should be limited to occasional - ie guess like the muller yoghurts.

I don't eat any processed low fat products as they contain added sugars as you say, but low fat cottage cheese, quark, and low fat natural greek yoghurt only contains (low levels) of milk sugar which seems to be ok in terms of weight loss.

ivykaty44 · 05/04/2011 13:37

low fat yogurts put added sugar into the yogurt on top of the milk sugars, as it is cheap and easy and takes away the sour taste.

try "total" greek yogurt, look at the back of the packet and compare with a low fat style yogurt and you will see there is more sugar in the low fat version than there is in the total yogurt 100g worth for 100g worth.
