Low GI and PCOS

Is anyone here doing low GI? And anyone had success losing weight on it with PCOS?

I finally saw a specialist dietician yesterday who advised me to follow a low GI diet and to increase the starchy carbs I eat as apparently that might be why my weight loss has been so slow.

So has anyone got any good tips? Or is there a thread with recipe ideas and things on here?

I have PCOS and have lost 12lbs since Christmas on a low carb diet. I wasn't massively overweight - my BMI was about 27.5 and I am a short arse with big boobs.

I eat mainly full fat dairy, eggs, meat, fish, green veg, salad. I avoid the more carby veg like carrots and potatoes. I eat way more veg than previously - it easily makes up 2/3 of my dinner and lunch, for eg.

No fruit (apart from berries occasionally), no white carbs like pasta or rice, not even couscous or bulgar wheat. I eat lentils, sushi, my mum's irish wheaten bread (which is mainly flaxseed and oats) about once a week/once a fortnight. If I am going to cheat, I try to make sure it's either delicious and amazing and a one-off or a healthy low gi sort of carb.

For a treat, I have berries, 4-6 squares dark chocolate. I haven't given up booze but am trying unsucessfully to reduce my consumption.

Come over to the low carber thread. It has really really helped me stay on the straight and narrow and to get lots of ideas for recipes.

I am TTC No1 and since losing the weight and going to acupunture once a fortnight, my periods are almost regular - I've had two in a row which were around 35 days! A miracle that hasn't occurred in about 4 years.

Unfortunately I tried low carb and although it worked it was very slow for me and I've now been told to include starchy carbs in my diet as I have problems with my blood sugar sometimes.

Low carb is not recommended for PCOS as it is too restrictive. Low GI is much better.

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few weeks ago and have bought a book called "PCOS For Dummies", it has lots of great recipes and advice about what to eat.
It doesn't restrict you from eating anything, just advises that you eat high GI foods (White bread, potatos, etc) infrequently.
