Before starting a diet or a healthy lifestlye plan there are some real important questions to ask your self. First one is why do you really want to loose weight? Is it part of a New Year resolution, is it because of the way you feel about your body image? Whatever the reason this is a time to be truly honest with your self. Having a compelling reason enough to kick start your plan is one of the most important steps to take, so give your self the best chance and think about it.

I dont think anyone wakes up one morning and says "you know, I think Im going to diet today! what fun!" Hmm

Speaking personally, I put weight on whilst pregnant and breastfeeding. None of my normal clothes fitted and I felt fat. I wanted to be back to "normal".

I started my diet on the day I weaned my DS2. I also signed up to a triathlon to give myself extra motivation to get really fit.

Are you a journalist? Why did you post? I imagine that most people who diet do so as they are overweight and would like to improve their health and appearance.

Often the reasons people say they want to lose weight might not be the real reasons. Which in turn can sometimes prove to be the reason they don't lose weight at all. Being completely honest with ourselves is the most important step and is why I say the reason has to be compelling. Did the triathlon idea work for you?

Yes, the triathlon has kept me very focussed at the gym. Also I had to estimate what size wetsuit I would need so another reason to get thinner for the big day.

For me, it was more like, why would I want to stay fat now that I don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding as an excuse. But then I don't understand why anyone would want to be overweight.

I hit my original target last week (3 stone in 5 months) and I would like now to loose another 5lbs before the triathlon in June.
