Ok my friend and I both started WW.
First week I ate a load of crap - well not really but just my normal meals.
Second week I stuck to healthier meals cut sugar out, went onto skimmed milk etc.
Third week I cut even more out and went onto ww foods.

So tell me how in the
first week I lost 5lbs

second week I put on 2lbs

third week I put another 1lb on.

It makes no sense at all to me.

Diets dont work IMO. They might work for a short while, a long while or not at all. Id look at another approach to healthy eating :)

Pumpster · 18/03/2011 10:54

Maybe you aren't eating enough. Did you keep a diary?

RunnerHasbeen · 18/03/2011 10:57

You can't judge week-by-week really, we fluctuate hormonally a bit (I'm about 4lb heavier for the few days before AF, for example). Also, you may have cut your sodium down and your body is adapting to it (crap foods contain a lot of sodium). Do you not feel any healthier or different? What about taking measurements as well?

jugofwildflowers · 18/03/2011 11:05

Have you had your thyroid checked out? I barely ate at one time and my weight never went down. I have since been diagnosed as having a hypothyroid problem.

It's best to exercise, even on the Wii if you have one, or run instead of walking. The key is to speed up the metabolism and cutting out stodge helps because they tend to drain your energy.

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/03/2011 11:06

Runner, I have lost 2" round my waist. But not lost weight, thats what I don't understand.

When I say crap I meant my usual foods which contain a lot of veg and rice, potatoes, mince and fish.

are you tracking and weighing everything. i do ww adn just eat what i was eating before but less of it.

Sidge · 18/03/2011 11:09

Weight Watcher foods are crap.

Diets rarely work.

You're better off eating normal, unprocessed, whole foods in their natural state rather than stuff (ie WW 'meals') that have been buggered about with.

Small amounts of monounsaturated fats - good.
Moderate amounts of protein - good.
Moderate amounts of wholegrain carbs - good.
Lots of veg - good.
Moderate amounts of fruit - good.
Plenty of water - good.

Processed foods in a box with fat removed, sugar added and synthetic ingredients - not good.

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/03/2011 11:17

Dup, the first week thats what I did the second and third I just changed everything. and gained weight.

def. avoid diet foods.

go back to eating normal foods but use ww to assess portion size.

ignore the diets don't work lot. ww is the only way i can get back on track after weight creeping on.

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/03/2011 11:23

a "normal" week prior to ww my meals would be any of these meals through the week or a variation of them.

Spaghetti Bolognaise, with wholemeal spaghetti and grated low low cheese

Baked salmon with lemon juice and mixed herbs and a jacket potato

Home made chicken/prawn curry and rice

Leek and Potato soup with bread - both home made

Beef/lamb casserole with bread

Fish n Chips on a friday

Mince with onions, peas and mash n gravy

and obviously Sundays are roast days

A few things:

a) time of the month
b) water rentention due to what you ate
c) impossible to loss 5lbs of fat in a week... so the first week you lost fluids which you then put back on. Always loose a lots the first week. 2lbs a week is about the limit...
d) avoid processed foods, including weight watchers food, there was a TV programme about this, the woman who only ate 1200 calories a day of WW processed foods for a month PUT ON weight.

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/03/2011 12:25

Forever
I have my af atm, the week before I always seem to go up a size in clothes if thats poss Sad then lose it again afterwards.

foreverondiet · 18/03/2011 12:46

Well there is explanation for weight gain (AF) weigh yourself again once its completely finished.

Stick with your normal diet but adapt eg

spag bol: add loads of veggies & chopped tomatoes to the meat (use lean mince), cut down the size of the pasta to 40g uncooked and skip the cheese

casserole - lean cut of beef and skip the bread, have with lots of veggies.

soup: use less stodgy veggies in place of potatoes (carrots/celeriac), and have wholemeal bread. Add a protein to this meal...

fish and chips - grilled fish and sweet potato wedges and salad.

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/03/2011 12:49

is there not an alternative cheese I could use as I really can't do spag bol without it its my one weakness Sad

OP posts:
DuplicitousBitch · 18/03/2011 13:01

then don't do spag bol or have a fairly small portion with cheese. it is all about eating slightly less than you need.

foreverondiet · 18/03/2011 13:21

So cut down the quantity pasta and meat a bit and have some cheese.

carlywurly · 18/03/2011 13:25

Hijack - forever, did you hit your target? Last I saw you were a pound off and I was wondering!

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/03/2011 13:27

Which is what I did in the first week, ok so back to eating my nice tasty foods in smaller quantities.

TY

Hmm what makes your opinions better than us who dont "diet" and still manage to loose a lot of weight?

foreverondiet · 18/03/2011 14:35

carlywurly yup! went away for a week, didn't weigh anything or myself but stuck to the principles and when I came back was 1.5lbs under target! Yippeee.

Although its an anticlimax as have been dieting for so long and thighs, whilst much thinner and now in proportion, still chaff when wearing skirt with no tights - maybe thats just the way I am built. But thinking of changing target - it was 9 stone 5lbs, now I am 9 stone 3.5lbs so maybe will aim for 9 stone?

carlywurly · 18/03/2011 18:37

Well done you!! That is brilliant, in so short a time. Smile

I saw some pics of me when I was last 9 stone something and it's interesting that I'm still curvy in places, but have no fat in others. My thighs are always the very last thing to trim down.

Maybe keep eating healthily and let your body settle where it wants to be. How lovely to get to the maintenance stage though - that's always where I go wrong!!
