Namechanger.....
So I thought you might be the experts on calories and nutrition, I really don't think I am!
I was thinking about what I eat in a typical day and although I would say I'm healthy, I have no concept of whether I eat too little or too much as I spend vast amounts of time either on my own or with my dcs.
Typically I eat,
Breakfast- museli with soya milk, small bowl. Toast with a little butter

Lunch- always crackers, not sure why. Cheese, salad, low fat mayo. Yoghurt and fruit

Dinner- fish or something like a tofu burger with roast veg or salad. Never have carbs with my dinner, not sure why?! Yoghurt, more fruit

Snacks- fruit, the odd biccie, breadsticks etc. Often have a milky way or similar but would never eat a normal sized chocolate bar or cake etc.
I think I have 'issues' but not sure what exactly. My diet is normal to me but others think its odd. What do you wise folk think? Thanks x

Are you a normal weight? Think it sounds quite healthy. Why do you think food issues?

fishnotchips · 17/03/2011 16:15

I am a normal weight, at times close to underweight. I can't see it though, if I see a photo of someone who I think resembles me, they are always at least 2 stone heavier Confused
I have issues (maybe) because when I say that is my diet, it really is, even on Christmas day I'm v.controlled and its only when I stop to consider other peoples diets/appetites that I can see that I may have a 'problem'.
I just worry that I have been this way for so long, that I've sort of lost all perspective. Although looking at what I eat written down, I can see it looks ok. Thanks for your reply x

It does seem a well balanced diet and is keeping you at a healthy weight. Are you worried because you are always so controlled? So at Christmas/on holiday/meals out you never eat anything out of the ordinary?

TracyK · 17/03/2011 16:24

As long as you feel healthy.
What age are you?
Is your skin clear and eyes bright and hair healthy? Energy levels ok? If you cut yourself - does it heal quickly? Periods regular?

I'd maybe only say that it doesn't look as if you get a lot of good oils in your diet - which may affect your joints/skin in later years.

foreverondiet · 17/03/2011 19:04

I don't think there is anything good about stuffing yourself on christmas, but if you are bordering on being underweight AND you think you look heavier then that could be a problem...

what would you eat if you go out for dinner to a restuarant?

Do you weigh out food or obssess about calories?
What is your BMI? Do you have enough energy for exercise?

fishnotchips · 18/03/2011 09:47

I think my bmi is around 19, I don't really exercise but I walk a great deal and I'm a very fidgety person (if that makes sense!) I think I'm full of energy, I get tired but I have young children and have to get up early everyday!
I'm 40 and my skin is ok (with make up!) Periods are light but regular. Tracy, thats good advice about oils, I shall make an effort to include more.
I don't weigh out food or obsess about calories but I think thats because I eat all the foods that I regard as 'safe' I don't really eat out and if I do, I would normally have a starter and a small pudding and no bread or 'extras'
Its odd because at my age myself and nearly all of my friends, are settled and happy. My friends all enjoy take aways, treats etc and are all a bit bigger than they were pre marriage/kids but they are happy and content and I envy them in lots of ways. I just don't think at my 'old' age I can change and I'm so scared of being 'fat'
Thank you all for your responses x

fishnotchips really recommend the south beach diet book. Although its intended as a weight loss diet, its very very sensible approach to diet and eating, and one (judging by what you eat already) could follow easily. Fats are allowed providing they are healthy fats, in moderation - eg nuts, avocado, olive oil.

Also fidgety people are apparently thin as they use up lots of energy fidgeting!

TracyK · 18/03/2011 12:57

What are your mum and gmum like - were they slim too?

fishnotchips · 18/03/2011 15:13

I think I must use up a lot of energy, I do find it v.hard to sit still. If I try to watch a film I either fall asleep or start getting up and down and irritate whoever I'm watching it with! I shall have at look at the south beach diet book, thanks for that.
My mum is largish and would be the first to admit she eats too much! My paternal side of the family are all petite but as we see very
little of them, I am a bit of an oddity when with my extended family, as all my aunts, cousins etc are much curvier.
As I said previously I just wish I could relax with age, my dp puts no pressure on me and at times says I could do with putting some weight on. It really is just me Sad
