I'll confess that I'm not overweight (in a medical sense of the work) but am quitewobbly post 2 kids. I eat cereal for breakfast, sandwich for lunch and then an evening meal which I cook from scratch and try to include plenty of veg, etc.

My trouble is that I can't keep out of the biscuits and the treats for the kids (usually carb related) - I'm hopeless...

What are your snack suggestions....I think if I cut my current snack suggestions out it might help....I love fruit etc and do eat that but seem to think that because my diet is otherwise healthy the rest doesn't count Confused

I'd go for:

  • Dried fruit - apricots, prunes etc...
  • Do a tup a ware box full of carrot sticks, cucumber and celery
  • Nuts and seeds - sainsbury's/M&S do a lovely bag full
  • Malt loaf minus the butter though!
  • Rice Cakes

Raw veg and high protein snacks. You aren't getting any protein at breakfast so have an egg or something early and it will make it easier to last until lunch. Watch the mayo and butter in your sandwich and add a side salad to go with it. I like fruit but tend to stay away because I'm not good on all the sugars, I also avoid nuts because once I've started I can't stop and they are full of calories. I'd definitely go with raw veggies, they are so good for you and mostly water with lots and lots of vitamins.

I know the theory behind weight loss but just can't put it into practise lol

I would suggest avoiding snacks entirely. If you're used to having snacks you will feel very hungry for several days but after a week or two you won't feel the need for them.

don't eat food that can bloat. Best to exercise tho - try the 30 day shred DVD

every time you want a snack, drink a large glass of water first. If you still want a biscuit after that, have one but eat it slowly, and have another glass of water before the second biscuit. Half the time we snack when we're thirsty. If it's emotional eating though, this might not help.

If you are really craving something sweet minimilks are brilliant - only 35 calories - same as a ryvita, and because they're frozen they last a while.
Also M&S sugar-free hard sweets - they do caramels and strawberry creams.
I know everyone else has made sesnible suggestions, but if you're craving sugar, then all the carrot sticks in the world won't help. Nuts and dried fruit are very high in caories so unless you're really restrained with them, a tiny fix of the sweet stuff is probably a better bet.
