Really need to go on a diet but at the mo am really broke so am buying cheap food like pasta etc which isn't really helping me.

Any ideas on how I can lose weight without having to go and buy loads of expensive food just for me ??

Eat smaller portions. Exercise more.

nutcackle · 21/10/2005 21:16

Yes smaller portions would help me i think. My evening meal portions are always small as i'm never that hungry then, but at lunchtime I tend to really pig out.

Bread is one of my big problems.

Exercise I am trying really I am. My brother has given me an abs thingy bob, but i'm not sure i'm doing it right.

Me and hubby have just been cutting down really so we are not calling it dieting. We have a takeaway once a week and only drink alcohol at the weekends.

My weakness was picking! But now I pick on fruit and I only eat 3 meals a day. Have cut out crisps and chocolate, but saying that if I fancy it then I will have it!

Its hard isnt it?

nutcackle · 21/10/2005 21:18

I don't really eat much chocloate and don't drink either so it's not a prob cutting those out

Crips, bread and biscuits are my biggest probs really. Oh and boredom, cos I eat when i'm bored.

Shockingly too, i also seem to have gone off fruit and veg so at the mo my diet is truly awful.

as hunkerpumpkin says.

For breakfast I suggest bowl of sugar free or low sugar cereal, like mini weetabix/raisin wheats with semi skimmed milk - weight portion in necessary

Lunch - Tuna (or similar protein, ie tin of salmon /organic egg), watercress & salad cream sandwich made with brown bread for lunch. Followed by hot drink (tea/coffee not hot choc)

Drink lots of water between breaks
coffee/tea

Dinner - fish/chicken with veg ie carrots/brocolli/sweetcorn, buttnut squash (bake in oven for 45b mins, blob of butter - yummy)

If you're desperate for something sweet, go for tinned or fresh fruit with organic greek yogurt.

Don't eat low fat alternatives because you'll feel deprived & then want to eat more.

If you're having pasta, have a small portion, add sweetcorn, tuna & a lloyd grossman sauce - very tasty. have pasta about once a week.

Good luck !

Hmmm dont really know what to say then! What about trying a different fruit - clementines and satsumas are around now or grapes. I have a real thing for grapes at the mo!

You maybe need to cut down on the crisps and bread and biscuits. Easier said than done I know!

As for the boredom, do you have a hobby? I do cross stitch and as Im using my hands I dont feel the need to be eating IYSWIM!

JenumGeranium · 21/10/2005 21:25

Oh yeah, and drink lots of water!

Mojomummy · 21/10/2005 21:25

2 slices of wholemeal brown sliced bread ( then you don't eat too much) is fine - don't buy the uncut stuff & load it with butter !

hunkerpumpkin · 21/10/2005 21:29

Take up knitting. Seriously - then if you're bored, you'll have something to occupy both hands and at the end you'll have a lovely garment in your new size (or a jumper with three arms) and you can feel very proud.
