I have been following the Pig to Twig plan but need a change. Can anyone tell me anything about the Scarsdale diet please?

20LB IN 2 WEEKS! Do you have to amputate a limb??

Never heard of this diet as i'm a big weight watchers fan but am willing to give it a go if you get those sort of results.

Will be watching this thread with interest for more info Smile

I know. It can't be healthy.

I just looked it up online - its very low calorie (ie starvation) PLUS low fat and low carb.

I bet only 20lb in 2 weeks if you are very overweight AND haven't been dieting.

IMO a diet like that would result in your body going into starvation mode. Plus coffee and half a grapefruit is not a healthy breakfast.

OP: why not try dukan. Its low fat and low carb but not starvation and might be good for a change.

FourFortyFour · 06/03/2011 12:23

I saw some weight watchers meals today that looked nice. If I ate those would I lose weight?

I am going to google to get some info on the Dukan diet, thank you.

I went from Pig 2 Twig to low gi and have lost a lot more weight. I also feel an awful lot more healthy tbh, the pig 2 twig diet is so full of fat, I just didn't enjoy it.

I think the Holford plan is supposed to be good, I went to a nutritionist for mine, which was £35 well spent. It allows you to eat treats in moderation too, so I have treat meal once a week which helps me stay on the straight and narrow the rest of the time.

FourFortyFour · 06/03/2011 19:56

Tell me more please. I haven't heard of the Holford plan.

I've got the book ordered from Amazon so will update when it arrives (hopefully tomorrow) It's sensible and low GI which means you can eat carbs but healthy ones like sweet potato or Burgen soya and linseed bread. I found the pig2twig depressingly restrictive as I don't eat meat and don't love cream or fatty food.

I do running twice a week, the shred workout a couple of times a week, drink loads of water and keep to about 1200 low GI cals a day. It is working in a way that low carbing didn't for me, and I love the fact that I can have a tiny bit of something naughty and it doesn't derail me.

FourFortyFour · 06/03/2011 20:09

Oh, I love sweet potatoes and have really missed it.

I am food shopping tomorrow, would you be able to give me a few suggestions on what to buy to get me going please?

No worries - to start you off, get some Burgen soya and linseed bread (think Warburtons do a similar one if Burgen isn't there)
Some wholegrain brown rice (make sure it says wholegrain or apparently it is just white rice coloured with food dye!) Shock
Sweet potatoes
Butternut squash
Fruits (hooray!) especially berries. Go easy on bananas.
Houmous
Low fat plain yoghurts
Mixed nuts
Lemon juice (lowers GI content of some food and is good as a salad dressing)
Eggs
Lean meat or fish
Leafy green veg / salad
Lentils, chickpeas and beans
Low fat cheeses
Olive oil
I bought some gram (chickpea) flour to make things like onion bhajis, pancakes etc. It's lower GI than normal flour.
Baby new potatoes are ok, so long as portions are kept very small.

Avoid - anything processed, fatty, white or sugary.
Hope this helps. I absolutely love this way of eating, after doing pig2twig it's heaven!

Thank you very much Smile.

hi carly I was wondering if you had changed diet, the one you are on now certainly seems to suit your lifestyle a lot better. I agree P2T is no good if you are veggie.

well done.

carlywurly · 08/03/2011 12:59

thanks Jax, I'm still watching your other thread. I'm carrying a lot of the pig2twig ideas into my new diet, but I just couldn't be that strict without being able to have steak and salad, for example.

Veggie food is naturally a bit higher in carbs because of the veg and complex carbs you need so pig2twig was a battle for me. Still haven't had a potato or any white bread in months and feel a lot better for it! Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 08/03/2011 13:05

well I think you are doing really well carly keep it up.

I am getting a little fed up at the moment, but not sure why. I mean, FFS I managed to eat properly P2T when I was up in Scotland, under mega stress, so why am I strugging since I got home?

Need to read the 'kick up the arse' part of the book again I reckon. Wink

carlywurly · 09/03/2011 16:35

thanks Jax! 11lbs down, another 13 to target. Hoping to be halfway there by the weekend. Smile On course for the summer, and had a really good, long workout and swim today and felt a lot more confident in my swimsuit.

Keep going, I think you do hit a wall after a while. Are you still doing phase one or have you started introducing other foods yet? I was so worried about doing that, but have actually lost more weight since I broadened my diet.
