does WW on-line really work if you are veggie?

Hi, I'm thinking seriously of trying WW for the first time - not hugely overwieght but the pounds are creeping up and I just can't shift them. I don't eat much processed/junk food anyway (no crisps/biscuits/burgers/chips) and I am more or less veggie (eat meat about once a fortnight). I just can't work out why I can't lose wieght (OK, maybe it's portion size and my addiction to cheese... Wink). My question is, does WW on-line work if you cook from scratch and are veggie? Are there enough menu options? Will I be able to work out points if I don't buy ready-made food? And finally, my doctor thinks I should try going wheat-free (I might have IBS) - just to make things more complicated. What on earth can I eat for lunch in the office? Confused. Thanks in advance to all you WW gurus.

Sprout - I'm just thinking of doing the same as you and I'm veggie too. I've never tried weight watchers before and am thinking of trying it online.

Was talking about this with a work colleague yesterday. She is veggie and finding it impossible. All of the complex carbs which you tend to rely on are really high in points.

I recommend the Harcombe diet instead, especially if you are already a fan of unprocessed foods. I'm veggie and was creeping up from size 10 to size 12 last summer, then lost a stone in two months.

I'm not totally veggie as have fish occasionally, but am losing weight with wwon a predominantly veggie diet.

I do eat a fair bit of quorn (very low propoints and high protein) and tofu and am addicted to mushroom omeletes with butternut squash chips. Also make a batch of home-made veggie chilli every week which works out at 4 points a portion.

I make lentil and chickpea curries which I bulk out with free veg and do lots of stir-fries.

As for going wheat-free, I have been trying to cut out bread as much as poss. I make my hubby a big varied salad when he goes into work and cook extra dinner for him to take leftovers of things like noodles into the office. I have noticed a big difference in weight-loss when I stay away from bread!

Oat cakes and veg crudites and hummous are good for office lunch. Just that and some fruit and a sachet of hot choc is incredibly filling!

I did tescodiets, and complex carbs also relatively high in "totals" on that too. I do eat meat and fish and that was pretty high in points as well (apart from white fish like cod). I found myself eating quorn pieces or mince at least 3 times a week as that was the lowest totals protein... Also tofu or other soya at least once a week.

Basically tesco diets (and I am sure WW is the same) encourages you to eat mountains of vegetables.

I think I'm going to go for the ww 3-month deal and see what happens. Watch this space...!

On the other hand Slimming World is fab if you are Veggie. I am not veggie ut follow the Green plan almost all the time and it's mostly vegetarian - helpful when meat is so expensive.

I'm veggie and loved being on ww! It's easy to follow, most fruit and veg are 0 points, you never have to go hungry, you can indulge occasionally (so less cravings), and you can eat out. Lost 2 stone without trying too hard over a period of 1y and will be going back on once I have the baby. I am only on the online one as couldn't face going for meetings. Nothing else (calorie counting, slim fast, exercise) worked for me.

I did look down my nose at quorn once upon a time but the products in the range are now really really good, and soooooo much cheaper than meat. I only realised how much when I was going to cook some fajitas at the weekend and thought I would be decent and do my friends with chicken rather than quorn chicken bites. The chicken breasts would have cost a fiver compared to £2.50 of quorn! So I made quorn fajitas for everyone and even the meat eaters wanted seconds.

Sample menu for today:

Breakfast:
2 tinned pineapple rings (in own juice) - 1pp (prob less but I counted 1pp for the juice)
1/2 sachet oatsosimple with semi-skimmed milk - 3pp
coffee with sweetener - 0

Lunch:
Mushroom omelette made with 2 eggs and frylight - 4pp
Butternut squash chips in cajun seasoning and frylight - 0pp
peas - 2pp

Dinner:
Quorn fajitas (made from discovery pack, add quorn chicken pieces, chopped red pepper and dollop of fat-free greek yoghurt) - 6pp each. I will have 2 so 12pp
Served with spinach leaves, baby plum tomatoes and 1/4 avocado (2 pp) and low fat dressing (1pp)

Treat: curly wurly (3pp)

25 points so still have 4 points to use up during the day
