Tomorrow I start Dukan, Can anyone reassure me that this can actually work?

I've put on a stone since I stopped Bfing. Which would be fine if I wasn't already 2 stones heavier than before the DCs.

I've never done a diet like Dukan before, only Weightwatchers, but it never really worked for me and the woman who runs or local groups is one scary mother.

Anyway, someone suggested I try Dukan. Book was duly bought (first diet book ever) and I think I have got my head around what I am meant to do....

...but I could really do with some reassurance from someone else who has done it, who could let me know if it can actually work and any tips from those in the know.

Also - where the hell can I buy oatbran? Is it just porridge oats by another name or do I need to venture into a health food shop?

There is a long running dukan thread running on here... post there... they'll all help.

I tried for a week and decided it was too restrictive for me although I am trying it again this week as it did seem to work and my weight loss has stalled by other methods. Getting my head around it as I did it for a week about a month ago and lost 4.5lbs that week.

Oatbran can be bought from tesco stocked near the porridge oats, but its not porridge oats by a different name.

I suggest you go for it and see if it suits you.

It suited me fine I have lost approx 2 stone, reasonably quickly ( prob would have been quicker if Xmas hadn't got in the way) and if I had focused more.

I liked it as it was v v simple to follow and I could eat when I liked (really helped and bizarrely lost more weight when I made sure I was eating enough) . The key is variety, a full stocked fridge and to menu plan. Have a read through the thread there are lots who have found it ok and have lost the weight, the thread really inspired me!

Thanks for your replies - will go and hunt down the thread. My concerns is that I'll run out of ideas of things to do with meat!

I did this diet last year, and initially lost about 9lbs in 8 days. I was really chuffed. However I found when I went back to work (Midwife, long shifts etc) it was really hard to stick to. I also found I was eating steak daily as I am not a chicken fan. I love steak but it was expensive!

It definitly works, and I must admit it is the only diet that has ever given me quick results without starving myself. I defintly think eating protein +++ in any diet is a must.

I have 1 stone to lose in 3 months, so I am thinking of hopping back on the Dukan for a while. I will go check out the thread.

I lost 10kg and I have just finished my stabilization period (having achieved my ideal weight, according to Dr Dukan, on schedule.
All this after going off the wagon with christmas and a half term holdiay thrown in !

I have been a serial dieter over the years and had got into a binging / then being good, cycle +also I had gained an extra stone from having 3 knee ops over 2 years after a skiing accident.
I must say i feel really evangelical about dukan but i did the coaching too which means filing in your weight daily, reporting by email any lapses and any particular food craving you maybe experiencing .
I think it was worth the extra expense because it meant a particular commitment from me that made a difference and also there was also someone was always there to answer any questions i had.

I was prepared with food ingredients, shopping every few days if necessary and the reason it worked for me was that i was not hungry ever.

no portion control so you don't feel deprived
if you need to snack, do so on muffins , cottage cheese, fat free muller light yoghurts , boiled eggs , smoked salmon and capers for example. Sugar free werthers originals , (one with cofffee in the evening)was a life saver for me !
NB very important - i found dukan recipes from bloggers to make low fat carb vanilla muffins (great for afternoon tea) and found breakfast using oat bran for porridge with skimmed milk and then splenda to sweeten really satisfying .
I made a really good dukan bread and a fab meat loaf too!
Also the inial stage of attack, mine was 2 days depending on how much you need to loose, was very effective and moral boosting and a huge incentive to keep going. I intially lost 5 lbs whcih made it all worth it .
Im feeling great, lots of energy and I definately think dukan's protien and alternating vegetables principle - really easy and do - able.
apologies for the ramble and poor grammar: I'm just impatient to post and finish !

Hi and thanks for sharing that. I need to find oatbran. I trawled Sainsbury's yesterday for it but could only find porridge. I'm going to venture to the local health food shop at lunchtime to see if I can find some.

I have 4st to lose so plan to attack for 5 days and have menu planned for those days to help me stick to it.

Is the coaching via the website?

yes coaching is through the website and mine cost about £60 for 3 months - i think you get a 20% discount if you've bought the paperback.
this investment helped me because they email you with suggested daily menus for lunch and dinner and ensured i didnt throw in the towel if i'd gone off the rails one weekend !

I really recommend a new pair of scales ( i got mine in lidl - £14, so not too expensive, these new digital scales measure in kilos eg 2.2lbs = 1000g or 1 kg )so even if you just lost 100g one day you feel you're achieving something !
some people don't do this, but dukan recommends weighing yourself everyday. i prefer to do this as it keeps me focused .

Oat bran -nis an absolute must for me !- holland and barratt sell it and I've got it at a big tesco - in the wholefoods section with lentils etc. but i get mine in waitrose ( cereals section) and positivley panic if if it's run out so i always buy 2 packs. i use it for porridge and muffins - which i always have made up and available even carrying a couple of them in silver foil in my handbag if i meet up with a friends for coffee at the local Costa - i find it helps if they are tucking into almond croissants or carrot cake i have somthing to nible on too ! BTW my recipe for the muffins is on the dukan recipe thread .
hope this helps .Smile
