Question about Paul McKenna Rules

Hi all, I'm hoping some of you who are following Paul McKenna's system can answer a question for me.

I've been reading his book and I like the rules but I'm finding it difficult to work out how rule 2 - Eat what you want, not what you think you should, works in practise.

I mean in terms of having to have meals for a family, needing to plan out the meals, do the shopping etc. Its not always practical to eat what you want, e.g. I've planned to cook chilli con carne for tea (mince defrosted) but would prefer fish & chips (fish frozen or none in).

How do you work around this, or how literally do you take the eat what you want approach?

should first of all fess up that I'm not on the PMcK thing but... it sounds to me like you're being too rigid or black and white about the rule. Eat chilli con carne tonight and promise yourself fish and chips tomorrow. You have to have to have to keep the promise otherwise you'll trigger a sense of scarcity about what you want, which would cause you to fixate negatively on what you have denied yourself. Keep the rule as much as possible and honour your appetite/desires as soon as you can, I'd reckon

To me it means stop looking at food as 'I shouldn't eat that', stop looking at it through eyes that have been trained by previous diets. Don't think, ooh mince is loads of syns/points. Eat it and enjoy it. Yes listen to your body and what it wants, but don't make food a barrier and a problem. It should be easy, or rather not an issue. In theory!

Thank you for the replies, I was hoping it wasn't going to be too strict, maybe should think of it as eat the food you like not what you think you should.

Exactly. It's, don't nibble on a lettuce leaf eat a burger if that's what you want but only of you're hungry, enjoy every mouthful & stop when you're full.
