Dukan for vegetarians?

Hi all,

Is Dukan suitable for vegetarians? The first two phases look too difficult to me; only eggs and no-fat dairy, really.

I could manage Consolidation/Stabilisation phases- I only have a bout 5 lbs to lose so do you think jumping in to the latter phases would work? Would another diet approach be better?

Sorry if it's a stupid question; I just can't seem to find a good diet plan for vegetarians. I exercise a lot, which is helping, but those last 5 pounds won't shift! Thanks. :)

Do you eat fish at all? (Sorry if silly question)

ChangyMcNamechangerson · 13/02/2011 16:34

Ah, no fish either! (not a silly question; lots of veggies eat fish, I know).

I do eat dairy.

I'm stuffed really, aren't I?

Well if its only 5 pounds to lose you'd only need to do about two days of attack )on eggs...) and then the next phase would be very short as well. Quorn? Tofu?

HOwever I'm not sure if it would be worth doing the whole Dukan malarkey for 5 pounds, unless you are already eating low-carbily.

Maybe the protein only day once a week would do it though.

I just can't decide. I keep thinking that Dukan would work really quickly but I'm not sure I could stick it, especially as I am Carb Queen. Grin

Thanks for the advice. Dont know what Dukan says about Quorn/Tofu, if anything...although he's French so probably hates vegetarians. :)

I think he does hate vegetarians actually Grin

Dukan will only work as a low carb set up - if you don't want to go permanently low carb then don't do it as you will just regain the weigh

Yes, I think you're right- I don't think I could stick low carb.

Thanks, you've helped me make myd ecision.

Back to square one!

Low carb is a complete turn around in the way you eat. I really like it though and find it very effective, and like the fact that you don't get hunger pangs and blood sugar lows etc.

How have you lost the weight so far?

FoiledAgain · 13/02/2011 17:38

Also, if you are exercising a lot, bear in mind that muscle weighs more than fat, so you may not actually need to lose 5 lbs to get to some mythical target...

Foreverondiet · 13/02/2011 17:44

I think quorn and tofu would be ok. Non fat dairy is fine. You might loose the 5lbs in one week. But I don't think low carb is good for veggies. Personally I think low fat & low GI (eg Rosemary Coneley GI hip and thigh) is better as then you can have pulses.

ChangyMcNamechangerson · 13/02/2011 18:13

Folied: lost it so far by doing lots of cardio/circuits! Lost 9lbs in 2 weeks by doing the EA Active Sports 2 for the Wii. Have done loads of ex programmes before but this one is magic! (Well, I think that is the cause...)

I have never been very overweight but always have 5-10 lbs I want to lose. Vanity pounds, I guess.Forever: thanks, maybe GI might be better for me...never stick to it long enough to know!
