Best diet for maintaining physical/mental energy levels?

I really, really need to lose weight, but at the same time cannot afford to lose physical/mental energy - work f/t, often finishing work off after DCs in bed etc.

So am calling on the collective wisdom of MN - what is the best diet for maintaining energy levels without the dreaded energy "dips"?

TIA x

Not a diet, but I have found eating every three hours throughout the day has helped keep my energy levels higher. I have three meals and then a snack in between, something combining protein with good carbs. Avoiding sugar completely has also made a huge difference in avoiding those energy dips. Sorry, not what you're looking for probably, hopefully someone will be along soon!

Low GI & low fat with snacks mid morning and mid afternoon.

Typical day:

breakfast - porridge
mid morning - yoghurt
lunch - brown bread sandwich with protein filling, eg chicken
mid afternoon - apple and some nuts
dinner - meat/fish/veggies/brown rice etc

lost and forever thanks so much for coming back to me - i really appreciate it.

i can't afford dips in concentration so have been putting off changing things. but really isn't that just another excuse? will give the regular snack thing a go and try not to work too late tonight so i'm not trying to give my system a sugar boost at midnight!
thanks again for the advice, x
