Worried about my Mum

My Mum is 62 and is really overweight- she's 5 foot 1 and weighs about 16 stone. She knows she needs to lose weight but its almost as if its too much to deal with. She went to the doctor today as she has a bad back and he said to her that if she didn't lose weight she would probably get diabetes. Probably not possibly.
I suggested Weightwatchers as it worked for me after dd was born, but then I had a more manageable amount to lose.
She simply likes the wrong kind of food too much and eats the same size portions as my dad. She also seems to guzzle and snack on anything going.
I don't know how to help her as she takes suggestions the wrong way and gets offended and upset. I think she would benefit from a group or something similar as I'm not sure she'll lose the weight on her own
Anyone have any ideas- I'm really worried about her

WW does work for bigger people, I lost 2 stone there (or rather, have 0.5 lbs to go!), my stepmum in law lost five.

It sounds like she has a confidence problem though.

She might be depressed, in which case he needs to talk to her Dr again about counselling as that can also help with weight loss. If not, then I think a group would work- there are several about and they all have websites so she can look before she goes (I was really shy at my first meeting, that helped a lot)

WW also has internet and telephone based options. I don't know about rosemary Conley / slimming world classes, but they might well.

Lighterlife? Your mum fits the perfect profile for the type of person the diet is aimed at. See Lighterlife thread and see here for details.

The Lighterlife diet is not cheap £46.50 a week for meal replacements. The idea is that you abstain from food for 100 days, during which time you receive cognitive behavioural therapy. No one can start the diet without having a medical. You need at least 3 stone to lose.
