Hi All -

Didn't think I had done particularly well this week, so was surprised to see that I surpassed the target.

My total: 77,592

Posey - would love to attempt a power walk with you, if you're still interested. Just CAT me, and we'll sort out a date/time.

Hi there.
Better week again although didn't repeat the great Monday total. Anyway I did 84,498 steps this week.

Earlybird - looks like its just me and you doing this at the moment. I got dd a basic pedometer in Superdrug last week for £2.99 but it seems very accurate. Today we walked over 5 miles. No wonder she was so tired!

Would love to join up for a power walk. Don't know what committments you have etc? I have a dh who works shifts so has to be when he's around to look after the kids. Let me know what you think.

Meant to say, well done on your total. How do you fit all your steps in (besides sleep walking?!)

Earlybird · 01/10/2005 22:12

Posey - that's a good total! Also sounds as if you had a good day today. We were couch potatoes at the Earlybird house, so must get myself moving a bit more vigourously from tomorrow.

I think I'm getting my steps in mainly by getting dd to/from school. It's almost a mile there, so by the time I take her/walk home, and then collect her/walk home again, I'm doing fairly well. Must admit to sometimes taking a taxi or tube though...or often a mum zipping to school in her 4x4 will take pity, and offer me a lift!

As far as coordinating a time to walk together...we'll have to work around your husband's shifts and dd's school hours. My first question: roughly how long should we set aside for a walk?

I'm based in south/central London, and that's roughly where I must be to collect dd. However, I have noticed from other threads that you're in Islington? I'm there several times a week as part of my weekly schedule. Is there anyplace in that area that is good for doing a walk?

Hi again!
If I want to walk locally, I sometimes go up to Highbury Fields and walk a bit in Highbury itself, but not if I want a long walk. It is really irritating if you have to keep stopping for traffic. There's also Clissold Park in Stoke Newington.

I don't think we need much more than 1 - 1.5 hours. I tend to do about a mile at a normal pace, maybe gradually speeding up a bit gradually, then do another hour or so. Its a good length to do as you don't need a whole day, but feel like you've achieved something, usually around about 6 miles.

Dh is having trouble getting his rota just now, though hopefully he'll know a bit more in the next day or 2.

Posey - Hope I can keep up with you! Completely understand how irritating it can be to contend with traffic, so maybe we can aim for Regent's Park. I know you walked there recently, and it might be the best place for us with our various geographical considerations.

Just let me know the rota when you've got it. FYI, dd stays late at school (until 3) on Tues and Thurs, so those are probably best days for me. But, my schedule can be a bit flexible if it's called for. Will wait to hear from you.
