how do you keep your motivation level up???

I have been exercising since the summer (Davina & 30 day shred) and I know how much better I feel, helps by digestion, love when my clothes feel that bit looser etc......BUT I find it really hard to keep going, the last 2 weeks I've done hardly anything and am feeling sluggish and crap!!!

All wise & fit MN's how do you keep at it??

Variety!

You need to change the exercise that you are doing.

Also, you will challenge your body to a greater extent if you mix it up a bit.

I set myself challenges. At the beginning of the year it was to be able to do proper push ups and run 5k when I achieved that I aimed to deadlift my own bodyweight, then a half marathon. My new aim is to be able to do unassisted pull ups. Different challenges require different training regimes which as blametheparents says, keeps it varied.

Thank-you for the messages....I suppose thats part of the problem, I'm bored with Gillian & Davina but I've got to do exercise at home - DH works long hours and getting to the gym or an exercise class isn't really an option!

You can buy different dvd sets which follow a 12 or 16 weeks plan so that you have a more varied workout routine and you could aim to finish the 4 months. I haven't tried any of them but someone here was talking about chalean extreme and p90x recently. What type of exercise do you enjoy?

arabellacaterpillar · 13/12/2010 15:03

Lostgirl, I enjoy a mix of cardio, resistance and weights...thats why Davina & 30 day shred have been good. Maybe the challenge should be to do the shred in 30 days.......not the 50+ it took me Blush

Nothing wrong with having days off to recover, and I've always found with dvd's that you get bored with them very quickly. You could buy some adjustable free weights and either find an programme online to follow, or make up your own complexes to do similar to the 30 day shred. Is there anything you would like to achieve fitness wise? I find concentrating on a specific goal rather than feeling like I have to do it to keep the weight off is what motivates me.

Variety, and new challenges.

If Davina/Shred is getting boring, mix it up - try Taebo, Hannah Waterman, pilates, dynamic yoga - whatever takes your fancy.

The trouble with a lot of the DVD's you haven't got anyone there to tell you if you are doing the exercise properly. I really pulled my neck and shoulder doing the Davina kick boxing exercise (mind you I was imagining I was puching anyone that had p***d me off that week) so may have overdone it.

My new year resolution is a new me, Its hard to fit it all in around the children husbands work etc, so the best thing I have found is walking, a bit of free weights and a dvd now and again and not eating as much when I am stressed or bored, just breath!!!!and count to 10.
