Just posting before I forget as I am going off line now.

I have tried exercise and eating better and lost 1lb. I was away last week for a few days and came home 4lb lighter than the previous weigh in. I weigh myself on a Friday morning.

I need to lose 3 stone as well as improve my health as my asthma is getting worse.

I need some kind of plan.

TIA and I will be back tomorrow.

Thanks.

I got up straight away when the alarm went off and went for an 8 minute run with a 1 1/2 minute walk inbetween. It was hard but feel good for doing it. I hope to build up to a 20 minute run each morning.

The coach to 5k plan is great for building up with running. You should try that if running is your thing.

I also use it on my cross trainer.

phipps · 01/11/2010 08:13

I want to be able to run and think it could be my thing and hopefully it will help with my asthma. Is the coach to 5k plan a thread on here?

Yes, but it's also a pod cast. It eases you into running, using interval training. www.c25k.com/

Do I need an ipod to listen to it?

OP posts:
DooinMeCleanin · 01/11/2010 08:18

Or an iphone or mp3 player.

phipps · 01/11/2010 08:19

Neither of which I have Sad.

Are they expensive?

DD has an MP3 player from Next but I don't think it is one you can download on to.

Ipod are expensive but you can get mp3 players from around a tenner on Amazon.

phipps · 01/11/2010 08:24

Okay, I will look later after the school run. Thank you. I assume you listen to it as you run?

DooinMeCleanin · 01/11/2010 08:29

Yeah and it tells you when to run and when to walk. It helps make sure you push yourself as far as you can. Rather than taking it easier.

phipps · 01/11/2010 11:59

Sounds like it would work for me. I really felt tight in the chest running home but just wanted to see if I could run the whole way and I did.

I don't run (I hate running) - however there are alternatives.
Do you have a Wii - if so I found that Wii Fit , EA Sports Active & its follow up, and Biggest Loser for the Wii were all very good for easing you into Exercise.
Otherwise I can recommend a DVD - Jillian Micheals 30 DAY SHRED - takes just 20 mins a day & gives amazing results (we have a thread on here).

I lost 2 stone last year doing these (& healthy eating) & have managed to keep it off. In fact because of these various things I now feel good enough to go to the gym!!

springlamb · 01/11/2010 14:23

Consider working in some strength/stamina exercises in the gym (or I noticed Argos (!) has appropriate machinery). Think about chest press and pull downs. These two machines have made my gym membership worthwhile. They have definitely increased my lung capacity, my breathing has really changed, DH says I am not wheezing in my sleep anymore. And I am recovering from my cough/cold thingy much quicker than previously.
Added benefits, I have boobs again instead of large droopy things going under my arms, and my upper arms and decolletage are looking much better. Obliques are better too.

phipps · 01/11/2010 17:01

I have a wii fit and the trainer one as well as a couple of exercise equipment pieces that I haven't tried yet. Doing the normal wii wasn't getting any weight off and doing the trainer didn't seem to be either. I am eating better and the weight is just staying the same.

Get a personal trainer. Get them to set you a program which includes your diet, you're probably eating more than you realise. You need to do lots of cardio. Walk everywhere, bike etc. It's a lifestyle change that will get you to lose the weight for good.

springlamb · 01/11/2010 17:11

Maybe you are converting some fat to muscle at the moment and of course muscle is heavier than fat. Soon you will get back to the fat that cannot be converted and must leave.

I lost 3inches around the middle for only a few pounds in weight when I started this time around (serial dieter). I think once I had converted everything possible I started to lose again, sloooooowly but surely.

phipps · 01/11/2010 17:12

I don't eat very much at all!

OP posts:
springlamb · 01/11/2010 18:23

When you say 'very much at all', you are eating a balanced diet?
If you are trying to live on 3 cherry tomatoes, two slices of cucumber, a rice cake and half a thimble full of cabbage soup your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto the weight for dear life.
You will get there - the longer it takes to come off, the longer it stays away.
I once lost 3 stone between April and July living on 700 cals a day. By the end of August, there it was back again.
At my age now, I am glad to have lost 8lb in two months.

phipps · 01/11/2010 19:16

Today is not a normal day, not sure I have those. I have had -

banana.
1 wine gum.
salad with roast chicken, peppers and onion.
hand full of crisps, twice.
quiche.
potatoes with milk, cream and pancetta.

OP posts:
springlamb · 01/11/2010 19:46

It woz the wine gum wot did it, guv.
I am sure you will get there!

phipps · 02/11/2010 09:30

No wine gums for me today!!

I did my morning run and ran the same distance as yesterday but I ran the whole way this time rather than walking a small bit of it.
