Has anyone ever done Diet Chef?

Have seen them on TV lately and been thinking this might work for us...

DP is 26 weeks pregnant and we both need to lose about 3-4 stone each (after baby is born obviously Grin). Coupled with this being our first baby I'm sure we won't want to cook all the time as we will be knackered, etc.

So this seems like a great solution, calorie controlled, portion controlled, delivered to our door just heat in microwave.

But has anyone ever done it? I'm scared that I'll commit then the food will taste totally crap or I'll get bored, etc. Thanks :)

I haven't done it, but likewise thought it sounds like a good idea. I looked on their website at the different meals and the dinners look nice. But the breakfasts and lunches not so good, a lot of cereal bars, soups and shakes which personally i don't think would keep me going until dinner time. I think i would spend the whole day thinking about food!
Have you ever tried slimming world or weight watchers? Weight watchers also do a lot of calorie and portioned controlled microwave meals. With slimming world there are a lot of meals you have to make from scratch, which i agree can be a bit of a pain in the bum, but slimming world also do books (which you could buy 2nd hand from ebay) with lots of ideas and food guides which tell you how much fats /calories "syns" are in the foods and snacks you can by off the shelf and which foods are considered to be "syn free". If getting to a slimming world meeting would be too difficult with a new born they do also offer a 'body optimise' package, which is just online.
Hope this helps,
good luck.
And if you do decide to go with diet chef please let me know how it goes, as like i said, i am curious myself. (and 31 weeks pregnant and wondering how on earth i can get myself back into shape after babies born!)

Hi barbie thanks for replying.

My partner did Slimming World for awhile but it seemed a lot of hassle. I'd prefer something where I could just buy the meal and pop it in, so Weight Watchers sounds good, I've heard of it lots but not sure how practical it is ...

i.e. where can you buy their ready made stuff? We mostly just have a Waitrose in our area and a few small Tesco local shops which won't have them I'm sure. I guess we could always do online shopping?

Are there room for any 'treats' in WW? I'm a huge sugar addict and if I don't at least have one thing that's dessert-y a day I go mad and sod the diet and eat loads Blush

plenty of Waitrose?M&S food cheaper than buying diet doctor and just as good for calories

Hi, sorry for late reply.
I shop online with ocado, and they do the weight watchers ready meals. And yep, they do snacks and desserts too. I found the meals to be not that filling, but i guess that would be the same with diet chef also, the problem with portion control :(
Weight watchers works on a points system rather than calorie counting, and again you can buy literature which will tell you how many points are in the branded foods you buy.
Good luck with all your weight loss endeavours!

I lost a stone with Diet Chef after the birth of my son last year. I lost a further stone through healthy eating and juicing. I now have a stone more to lose.

Diet chef is good in that it's quick and convenient, but tbh the food wasn't that nice. The soups were great, but you can buy soups from any supermarket with a similar calorie content.

The breakfasts were awful 40g of sugary granola- I prefer weetabix a sit has no sugar and is more filling and less calories.

The evening meals were terrible. The meat in the curries for example was dry and tasted like wood shavings and the sauces were always spicey, even when the meal shouldn't have been spicy- eg pasta bolognese.

When you opened the sachets there was a whiff of catfood, particularly with the meatballs and sausage casserole main meals.

I had 6 weeks supply that I gave to freecycle as I couldn't bear to eat it.

If you like food that always tastes of chilli powder with a slightly bitter after taste then you might be Ok, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

The people who make the diet chef meals also make food under another name, but I can't remember it. The food comes in similar sachets to Diet Chef's.
