Hi... After the failed attempts at dieting for the last 15 years, then the Hypnoband I decided to stay with the Gastric Bypass route. I got referred last April and due to a back log, I've had my letter this week for 4th November!
Basically I am bricking it! The fear of being put to sleep, dying on the table (Blush), complications post op, not losing weight, pain, etc etc all have me in a complete tis was!
Anybody have any ideas, thoughts, experiences that they can share? Would be most grateful :)
Thanks.

I have no idea but there are a couple of Mumsnetters who have had this done so I am giving you a friendly bump. They might be in bed now so it might be worth your while bumping in the morning. Smile

Good luck.

Herriot, Best of luck, hope you succeed with it. Smile

Did you hear the R4 Woman's hour discussion this morning about the hypnotic gastric bands? It's probably be on iplayer? It was quite interesting.

I feel fantastic now. Loads of energy and just so much more confident. No huffing and puffing and sweating etc everywhere I go! I have been exercising most days since about 4 weeks or so after my op and tbh my skin isnt that bad. OK the tops of my legs are a bit "loose" and I have an apron on my tummy that will probably never go- but its not as bad as some pics Ive seen. I doubt I would ever have plastic surgery but I still want to lose more so we will see when Im even lighter. Ill never wear a bikini but I look ok in a one piece!
The weirdest thing is not really knowing who I am anymore- I walk past people in the street and nobody recognises me- I feel like a stranger in my own skin- when people do recognise me all they want to talk about is my weight loss- and tbh Ive kept my operation pretty quiet as its personal to me and Im not quite sure how to handle the attention. But I dont have any regrets whatsoever. I waited 2 years for my operation and it was totally worth it. Ive had a second chance at life and Im grabbing it with both hands.

Hi melted - thanks for the good luck :) I did try the hypnoband - am afraid it didn't work for me... It worked for my partner though but I can 'cheat' at most things food related! Hence the op... :)

Johnthepong - WOW - again! Thanks for that - really inspiring :) I've not really had chance to talk to many people re the op who've had it done also. I'm just so focussed on waking up after the op that I've not thought about actually being slimmer! lol...

EVERYBODY knows that I'm having it done! In fact I was in Boots this afternoon buying babyfood for the 1st 2 months picnics, and she said 'babies are expensive aren't they?' and I just said - 'nope, they're for me' and told her why too! :)

This pre-op diet is HARD!!! But I'm looking forward to saying 'Yay, 12 stone off and it was the best thing I ever did'!!!

I had gastric bypass last summer (6 months ago) and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I have lost 47 kg and my DH (who had it 14 months ago) has lost 90 kg.

It's saved both our lives. My diabetes disappeared the day of surgery and now I'm running every day and looking at even doing a short triathlon next summer.

We are a new family. A new healthy family.

ChippedChinaTeacup · 04/01/2011 11:20

Well done all of you!!!

Interested that the hypnoband didn't work.. I know a few people who've been thinking about doing that.

Me, I had a duodenal switch almost 3 years ago and have lost almost 17 stones. I do have some skin issues now and I think I won't lose much more weight because most of it is the skin, going to see a plastics man later this month to see what my options are but I'm not sure if I want to go the surgery route again.

How are you doing now OP?

JennyJuno · 04/01/2011 11:50

DH wants to think about plastic surgery in a year or so. I'm sticking with good old moisturizers at the moment, but DH has lost 200 lbs and I've only lost 100 lbs. Anyway, I'd rather have saggy bits than extra fat at this stage of the game anyway. I'm a game old bird anyway (48) so would have the saggy bits whatever :)
