OK, please tell me your golden rules of weight loss

I can't seem to count points, calories, fat grams etc. I need carbs in my life. If I eat 6 times a day I end up eating 6 large meals...cos I Can. If you were to give me one tip which works for you what would it be...related to either diet or exercise

shred dvd - plus eat healthily - nothing processed & cook from scratch without too much fats - cut down on alcohol & try not to eat sweets/crisps/cakes.

Have shred DVD...was queen of exercise in my 20's, no longer it seems, I couldn't walk after day 1, level 1, I may have been over enthusiastic but it has put me off somewhat.
Does it really work??

Cut out snacks and junk food.
Eat smaller portions.
Drink only 5-6 units a week.
Exercise 5-6 times a week - running especially good.

Have just lost a stone.

I have lost half a stone in about 6 weeks using the weightlossresources website to track calories and exercise. Slower than I hoped but in the right direction.

You need to find some willpower too - mine was actually DH backing me up and admitting he'd noticed I'd put on quite a bit.

Eat healthily.
Drink more water.
Keep busy.
Never deny your self anything just eat the bad food in smaller portions and less often.
As soon as you think I can't have such and such will be the moment you start craving it.

Don't have snacks in the house. If the DC want a chocolate bar etc we go out and choose one for them from the shop round the corner, much easier to say 'No I wont have one' that one time, than to be stuck with a house full of temptation. Or make the cakes etc yourself.

I eat when bored in the evening so I knit/sew/write to keep my hands and mind occupied. Atm I am writing reviews for Dooyoo and earning a little bit of money at the same time.

Try to walk as much as you can and take stairs instead of lifts etc.

Buy a step counter and make sure you take 10,000 steps a day.

Make sure your home is full of healthy snacks if you are prone to the munchies (as I am!).

Yes I second Paul Mckenna also cut caffiene, alcohol and you don't need to calorie count if you don't eat carbs and protein together.

Don't drink fizzy pop/juice etc of any kind (or only very rarely). Its either stuffed full of sugar (empty calories and causes cravings) or artificial sweetners (all manner of (alleged) unpleasant side effects) but best avoided. If you want a cold drink, have water, if you want a hot drink, tea or normal coffee, ie not stuffed with cream, loads of full fat milk, or chocolate. if you want alcohol, this is fine in moderation, but obviously beer/wine is better than Baileys/alcopops.

Another vote for the Paul Mckenna rules and also only eat white carbs (specially sugar/bread) as a small accompaniment to plenty of protein. Otherwise all it will do is make you more hungry.

Finally, the breakfast like a king/lunch like a lord/dine like a pauper principle works much better than normal dietary advice for regulating apetite etc. One of the dieters worst enemy is hunger because all you do is overeat or snack on rubbish - far better to eat something decent in the first place you want a big meal for breakfast (at least 600 cals -yes really, with plenty of protein so eggs are the obvious choice) a normal (eg 400 cals) for lunch and you should be satisfied with a starter/small meal size portion for evening meal - a couple of snacks in between (yogurt/nuts etc)is fine as well. This is what I do now - I've kind of worked this out on my own from Paul McKenna - he says eat when you're hungry - I realised I was hungry in the morning so I eat loads in the morning. The absolute worst thing you can have for breakfast is cereal - too much sugar and littel protein and recommended portion sizes are far too small -see above. If I have even a large portion of cereal I am hungry within the hour even if it is an alleged low GI cereal like porridge or muesli.

i cut out (or greatly reduce) carbs, drink more water, walk more, eat lots of eggs,eat a fat free yoghurt everyday(studies show that those who do lose more weight than those who don't) and I keep a weight in my handbag from my sons weight-bench - on the premise that the more weight you carry the more you lose(same principle as those weightloss trainers)

Joby some people are actually better doing yoga type exercise and walking, housework etc. rather than the shred thing which can cause stress responses.

Lots of veg. Have cut up carrot and celery to munch on whilst cooking etc.

Drink a huge glass of water every time you feel like you want to eat and wait to see if you are still hungry after that.

Brush your teeth whenever you feel like snacking on chocolate.

Take up running.

Enjoy your food. Don't eat mindlessly in front of the telly.

Order cake so you don't feel deprived - but just have a taste and really enjoy it. The first mouthful is always the best.

Keep a food diary and write down EVERYTHING you eat - before it goes into your mouth. Including the bites, scrapes and tastes.

Make sure you understand portion sizes. I eat two portions of spaghetti - but I am aware of that. And compensate for it.

(Oh - and I am a size 8 and have been maintaining a 30lbs weight loss for about 2 months - I lost my baby weight following WW).

Well with me, it's that same stone. It keeps going and coming.

It's like I'm two people. One is a lazy junk food guzzling couch potato, the other, the keep fit fanatic, who has no problem resisting eating crap. The trouble is, I can't control the switch from one to the other. It must be sunspots or something.

IMO there is no ONE diet that suits everyone apart from Paul Mckenna 'cos he re educates our attitude to food naturally; follow our thread all are welcome! Smile
