Dieting with breastfeeding

I have for the last two weeks been on the South Beach Diet.

Finding it really hard.

Purchased some slimfast shakes today, had one for my lunch just now but noticed on the container that it mentions about not to have it if you are bf.

Now, my lo is now 14 months old now, so only bf at sleep times and bed time or when lo is desparate from a drink from me.

I really only want to loose a bit on my tummy now so that I can get into my autumn trousers and want to loose it quickly.

Am I okay to take slimfast shakes - twice a day and have a normal meal ? Anyone does this and bf and will it not really matter now as I am more or less weaning my lo off me and more into food and drinks ??

Haven't tried it but did the WW breastfeeding programme and am now at goal weight. It isn't a quick fix but does work and doesn't make you feel deprived.

Oh, what does the WW breastfeeding programme involve ? and how quickly did you reach your goal weight ?

You count points. You are 'allowed' a certain amount of points, which are worked out depending on your height, weight, age, normal daily activity, whether you're a male or female and then have extra tacked on if you're bf.

All food is then given points (worked out by combining the kjs and sat fat) - although most veg and some sauces etc are 'free'.

It is a fairly easy way to still live a normal life, eat out, cook for your family etc and still lose weight.

You also can earn extra points by exercising.

They do have loose guidelines re how many serves of veg, fruit, dairy, oils, protein and carbs you should be eating and how much water you should be drinking BUT as long as you eat your points you will lose each week. I found with BF that you can't eat less and lose. You have to eat every point and all exercise points too.

To give you an idea I am 'allowed' 27 points per day (when I don't exercise) and a slice of bread is 1 point, a banana is 1 point, a 140g piece of lean steak is 3 points, 30g of cheddar is 3 points, a lindt ball is 2 points.

There are meetings you can go to, to weigh in once a week; or you can join their internet programme; or you can buy the books on ebay and do it yourself. If you follow it, you can expect to lose about 500g-1kg a week (a bit more in the first few weeks).

Oh - and I lost 14 kgs ( just over 30lbs) in 6 months. I've also taken up running and it took a while to work out that I needed to eat all my extra running points and so I had a few very slow weeks - but I've not had any problems with my milk supply and feel very well, healthy and not at all hungry or deprived (I still have a bit of choc first thing in the am and a glass of wine at night!).
