Weight Watchers question about All Bran, does it have,,,, minus points?? or am I REALLY miscalculating?!

100 grams has 280 cals and .7 sat fat.

so for 100gms that would be 4.175 points

however there is 27gms fibre per 100grms, so if you divide 27gms by 5 you get 5.4 which I thought you could subtract from the original answer.

This formula works well for porridge..... but is All Bran free or free-er than free! Confused

A medium bowl of All Bran (40g) is 1.5 points.

Thanks for your reply!

Have you heard of the formula where you subtract the (dietary fibre divided by 5) from your cals/70 + sat fat/4

?

or did I dream that formula?!

i am currently on ww and have never heard of this formula.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/08/2010 17:47

never heard of minus points for food

ValiumSingleton · 30/08/2010 18:40

look at this, googled it. It seems that early WW did allow you to subtract 'pointage' depending on the amount of dietary fibre.

The Weight Watchers Points Formula
The actual Weight Watchers Points formula used in the Weight Watchers Points calculator is currently under strict US Patent laws. The formula is shown below::

Where:
p = Points
c = Calories
f = Fat Grams
r = Dietary fiber Grams

(Note: min{r, 4} equals the number of grams of dietary fiber or 4, whichever is smaller. In other words, only the first 4 grams of fiber "count.")

Some examples of Weight Watchers Points assigned to foods are shown in the following table, using a Weight Watchers Points calculator would yield a similar result:

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/08/2010 07:34

wow, so if you ate TONS of fibre, you could gain points

ValiumSingleton · 31/08/2010 09:25

They seem to have done away with that early method.. which is a shame because now, white rice comes in as having lower points than brown, whereas if you apply the old system it would have lower points than white, which seems right. What incentive is there to eat brown rice if you're just trying to get in under 18 points!

The formula didn't copy over when I tried to copy and pasted.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/08/2010 15:13

have to say that brown rice is really bland and has no taste

omydarlin · 31/08/2010 23:12

when i did ww a year or so back i used calories divided by 70 plus sat fat divided by 4 which was MSE - it always seemed to add up right when i could get home to double check what id done in my head LOL!
