Boot Camps

Hi all,

So, am currently doing ww, and it's going ok really but am thinking of going to one of these week long bootcamps for a bit of a kick up the bum.

There's one in the Peak District that offers workshops on emotional eating, nutrition and behavioral change, which I think I would really benefit from, as well as all the exercise obv.

My question is, has anyone ever been on one of these? They're really expensive so I'm unsure whether to go ahead or not. Plus, I'd have to go on my own, as no-one I know can afford to come with me. Am a bit worried how I'd get on on my own.

Just after some advice from anyone who has any experience with these. thanks Smile

Hello, just got back from a boot-camp today in fact. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Not all boot camps are created equal, (of course price, comfort level, group sizes, dates that work for you) are major factors but I would seriously recommend you speak to someone at the place you are considering booking and understand their philosophy and how it works.

I've lost 12 lbs at each of the camps I attended and also maintained that loss and continued it going forwards. The one thing I would say is that bootcamp may be quick but it is certainly not an easy route. It is incredibly hard work physically, mentally and emotionally. You mention that you are interested in workshops on the psychology of weightloss and overeating. This can be a tough subject to face up to.

You get out what you put in. A good camp will tailor it's approach to different fitness levels and make sure everyone is working at the top of their capability.

Apologies if I sound like I'm trying to sell it or work for one of the companies that run these courses, I promise I don't. I'm just still on a high after coming back from my last course. I'd heartily recommend my camp feel free to message me if you would like the details.

Oh, and meant to say, given how tough these are I'd recommend not going with friends or family - or risk them no longer being friends when you go home. Imagine if one friend drops out and another keeps going, that is going to be tough on a friendship!

This can be a stressful experience and you can expect the group you meet there to support you through the camp. Don't worry about going on your own.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like there's only you who's been! Sounds like a really tough, but positive experience.
Think I will go ahead on my own. Just need to get the money together now!
Thanks again.

Hi there,
I am just about to sign up for one in October in the Brecon Beacons. I have ummd and aahdd and have decided that sod it I am doing it. I am 45 and a stone and a half overweight. I have also joined weight watchers but the bootcamp is something I have wanted to do for a while. I am a wife and mother to two kids and can't remember the last time I did something just for me So I am really excited. I am fairly fit but I still expect to be pushed further than my own limits. I will be really peed off if I am not pushed really hard and that is my only worry. I expect the unfit will get the best results but I am still expecting a lot for myself.

That sounds great go for it! I would love to do it but my kids are so young it's tricky. Good for you good luck

I did a boot camp last year and it was fantastic - it literally changed my life! They are not all equal as others have said and I heard horror stories about some of them but I would highly recommend Prestige.

FlyingCat · 02/09/2010 22:03

Oooh, I've also heard great things about prestige... I went with back2basics and loved them but spoke highly of the guy who runs prestige too.

englishroseinwales · 06/09/2010 11:59

I've done it, i've signed up for the Bootcamp for a week in Brecon and Ive paid. I will let you all know how I got on when I finish on the 15th October, thats if Ive got the energy!

smellmycheese · 28/09/2010 13:40

Hiya!

So sorry I've only just come back to this thread and realised people have actually posted since me!

Good luck englishrose! Make sure you do come back and let us know how you get on.

I must admit I havent signed up yet. Does anyone know anything about fitfarms? That is the closest to me, but I will look at Prestige now too.

Hi everyone, Well I did it. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, much tougher than I ever imagined but so absolutely amazing. I weighed in on the first day at 10.7lb and I know that was right as I was at weight watchers for a weigh in the night before. Before leaving bootcamp last Friday we were weighed and measured again and I lost 10lb and 10 inches. I am now 9.11lb, yippeeeee, in fact this morning I was 9.10. I have got that buzz back that I used to get from exercise and it feels amazing. I would never recommend this to anyone as it has to be a personal decision, also I think that they may kill me afterwards!! I also made some great friends and we are all doing a 10k run in the spring for charity. Not sure how I am going to explain to my weight watcher leader the weight loss, I'm sure she will have only bad things to say about bootcamps. In case anyone is wondering, the food wasnt too bad either. Approximate 1200 calories a day, lots of protein and veg, no caffeine and no dairy. It made me realise what my body can do even when eating much smaller portions.

smellmycheese · 24/10/2010 22:02

Well done englishrose! I'm still umming and aahing!
