anyone else read this? I bought it at the weekend & have read it. Someone to discuss it with would be great.

What sort of lifting? Weight lifting?

LostGirl · 23/08/2010 14:40

Me, what did you think of it?

Joby1970 · 23/08/2010 15:40

its weight lifting.

Lost Girl - I thought it was you that was doing it. Like I said only just read thro it this weekend. Plan to start next week @ they gym - to busy with trips etc this week. Looks interesting - did you find it easy to follow?

Yes, pretty straightforward, take the book with you so that you can read through exercise description before you do them, some are deceptively hard (step ups sound so harmless and are horrible ). Stage 1 only takes about 30 minutes to do, but is effective once you work out what weight you should be using for each exercise. I think it took me about three sessions on each workout before I was actually lifting heavy enough. I'm just finishing up stage 5 now and having a week off before starting stage 6.

Will find the website which has links to demonstrations of good form for most of the exercises if you'd like. I never realised that I wasn't doing full squats until I watched them. Does your gym have a proper squat rack etc?

Joby1970 · 23/08/2010 15:54

don't know about the squat rack not checked - I would hope so tho. what weights are you up to?

Depends on the exercise. I haven't had to do full squats since stage 1 but am up to 65 kg for my deadlifts and 34kg for bent over row. Really need to improve my grip strength though as I struggle to hold anything much over 20kg dumbbells for any length of time. Horrid exercises like the YTWL I am still struggling with 3kg though!

Joby1970 · 23/08/2010 16:06

wow that sounds amazing!!

Good youtube clip of how to squat

Forum for nrol here Have never contributed to it, but have read some interesting and useful bits on there.

Will be nice to have someone to discuss it with. Are you aiming to do two or three workouts a week?

Joby1970 · 23/08/2010 16:26

Not sure, I already do Body Pump on a Monday but could change that to a NROL workout.

On Tues & Thurs I do boxfit & wouldn't want to miss that

If you keep doing bodypump then you'd need to leave a day either side of it before a weights session, the boxfit probably counts more as cross training, but probably a good idea to have at least one day a week where you do nothing at all! I know the first stage looks simple and short but if you do them properly then it is intense. I did 3 workouts a week and nothing else apart from a couple of hill walks a week and still lost inches. Try having a go at the exercises at home without any weight to practice your form. Doing step ups without pushing up off the floor with your other foot for example is hard to do with just bodyweight, never mind dummbells.

Hope you enjoy it Smile

will let you know - thanks
