i'm currently pregnant, but looking for a fitness programme to use after the birth.

i feel i need to loose the weight quite quickly, although healthily. i've had issues with food and my weight in the past and am worried after the birth i will spiral in to a body image related depression (a i have done in the past) as i look very diffrent now to what i did pre pregnancy. i want the first few months with my new dd to be happy and feel having some sort of programme in place will keep me happy and motivated and looking forward.

i was fairly fit pre pregnancy (had to stop all exercise on docs orders and am not fit any more!) and have in the past (4 years ago) taken part in the race for life which i did quite well in. (came 6th)

i've been reading a few threads on here and am quite intrested in the 30 day shread although can find much information about it on amazon and also the couch to 5k programme, but again cant find much information on it online.

which would you wise mners say was the best for what i'm looking for? or do you think a diffrent exercise programme would be better.

(obviously i will be teaming the exercise with healthy eating)

Couch to 5k definatley - lots of threads in health and fitness - look at Coolrunnings.com for a breakdown of what you do each week.

It is amazing and really works. I have gone from being able to run for a couple of minutes to being able to run 3 miles without stopping in the space of 8 weeks. I did a 3 mile run yesterday morning and again before dinner tonight. It is easy to do if you download a podcast (most peope use Rober Ullrey but there is one on fitter faster fiercer.com too - both free) Your get really good results and a real sense of achievement after every run. I have got all my friends on to it too. It is fab!

I am awaiting my 30d day shred DVD from lovefilm as we speak - will report back later..!

Shred is not really suitable for the immediate postnatal period. My DD is 5 months and I'm finding it hard going despite having been really fit pre-preg.

i was leaning more towards couch to 5k as me and dh could do it together.

I started the couch to 5 km when ds2 was about 7/8months old (wish i'd started earler TBH). It was brilliant and I'd definately recommend. Basically once you can walk briskly for 40mins yu should be ready to start it. I also bought the Shred dvd, but didn't start as wanted to get fitter 1st. But fell pg with no 3! After this birth I will be brisk walking a lot after 6 wks. Then will start the couch-5km as soon as I feel ready (hopefully by 8 wks). Once I can run the 5km I'll probably add in the shred and run a few x a wk. I'm determined to not hold onto my baby weight this time - having had 3 babies in 3 year's I'm not very toned and it's getting to me a lot!
