I bought this about a month ago. I finally plucked up the courage a couple of weeks ago. I'm reasonably fit but I couldn't walk for 2 days after Shock I only used tins of beans too as I haven't got any weights yet. Please tell me it gets easier, I've not been brave enough to try it again since!

Joby1970 · 13/08/2010 10:40

purpleflower : I found it difficult to walk the next day - but pushed thro & did it for 8 days straight beofre taking a days rest - trust me you can do it.

MAdeindevon: I do body pump & use 15KG for leg work & 10K for chest work - but I don't know why the SHRED is different! Anyway let us know how you get on. I'm really interested now. Smile

notyummy · 13/08/2010 10:44

Madeindevon - I do a lot of exercise (ex-military hardcore sadist!!) and I still wouldn't use more than 5kg (absolute max) on ANY of the exercises in the the Shred. My DH who is still in the military does the Shred and he only uses 5 kg.

Basically, you are doing a LOT of reps and doing exercises at the same time (squats with shoulder press etc.) 3 KG doesn't sound a lot, but when you have been doing as many of them as possible for 1 1/2 mins solid and its straight into jumping lunges (no walking to the next weights machine to get your breath back....!) then I can almost guarantee you won't be using 8KG!! It doesn't equate to 'just' a cardio session or 'just' a weights session.

notyummy · 13/08/2010 10:46

Also, because you have to change so quickly between the exercises, trying to use heavy weight means you could do yourself an injury!!

If you want to really kill yourself then do 2 of the sessions back-to-back (40 mins rather than 20.) Probably better for you than trying to up the weights. I do this once a week.

madeindevon2 · 13/08/2010 11:02

ooooo its sounding good!! maybe will go for smaller weights then if thats what you recommend!!
sounds like 3kg would be better to start then....
cant wait to get home and see the dvd now! i will be buying weights at weekend. can use beans or whatever tonight

Well ladies I think Madeindevon has already joined our cult & she hasn't even done the DVD yet!

Giddyup · 13/08/2010 11:09

How soon after child birth can I start shredding? am pretty unfit... Would not normally be in such a hurry but we are going to Australia for 3 weeks when DC2 is approx 12 weeks old.

purpleflower123 · 13/08/2010 11:11

I braved it, just finished. Feeling very hot but not too bad. It didn't help having the DC's around, DS(4) wanted my bean tins weights and DD(2) either hung off my legs or sat on my tummy while trying to do abs Hmm think I'll leave it till they're in bed next time.

If I can't walk tomorrow, I blame all of you!

upahill · 13/08/2010 11:13

Hmmm My copy is loiterng in the dvd at the mo.

However my calves are killing me from a load of up hill cycling and mountain walking this week. I am doing that side ways walk like I'm an extra in Shaun of the dead.

I want to do the Shred but I'm indoor climbing tomorrow and don't want to be in pain for that.

Maybe tomorrow night I'll do it!

racmac · 13/08/2010 14:57

The difference is i suspect for those of you who use the gym is that you dont use free weights in the gym.

Its harder because you are using all your muscles by doing free weights rather than the specific muscles the machines get you to use.

madeindevon2 · 13/08/2010 15:54

i use free weights in the gym. more than machines

madeindevon2 · 13/08/2010 15:55

for that reason in fact

Have decided. Am going to buy the dvd.

Question: What is the difference between the dvd in the blue case and the one in black case? Thanksmuch.

racmac · 15/08/2010 10:51

not sure but some of her DVD's are region 1 (USA) only and will only work on some types of DVD player so make sure you get the one that works on region 2 (i think) as well

madeindevon2 · 16/08/2010 08:14

DVD didnt arrive at weekend from amazon :-( hopefully today!!

Have lurked on this thread and have gone and bought the DVD. Think it's coming today... am a bit scared but had a baby 12 weeks ago and despite losing nearly a stone am as flabby as hell. Fingers crossed it is going to sort this out!

Does it work just using cans of beans rather than proper weights?

notyummy · 16/08/2010 10:13

Oranges - if you are not a regular exerciser then you will probably get some benefits using cans to begin with. Overall though, they are not heavy enough to challenge you, so you should look to get some weights. Argos/Asda etc do sets of weights for under £20 - 1.5 kg/3kg/5kg or something similar.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 16/08/2010 10:18

Thanks notyummy, used to be reasonably fit and accidentally conceived DD when training for my third half marathon. Haven't done much since though so think it will be a shock!

Somehow I think it's worse to have been fit once rather than coming to it fresh. I keep thinking I used to be able to do x (swim, run without wobble, chase DD) much better than this! Very depressing!

ProfYaffle · 16/08/2010 10:24

How much space does one need in the living room to do this? Ours is tiny which can be quite restricting on the home exercise dvd front.

Also, is it hard on the knees? Mine's sore at the moment after carting 25l containers of water around the allotment so I'm not keen on doing a load of lunges and squats.

notyummy · 16/08/2010 10:30

Quite hard on the knees - there are a fair amount of squats and lunges, and lots of jumping in level 3. She does concentrate on good form though.

Space wise, probably less than some other ones I have done. You do need to be able to wave your arms about with weighs and step backwards and forwards for lunges, plus skip from side to side. Don't think you need loads of space though.

ProfYaffle · 16/08/2010 10:43

Thanks for that
