I have recently lost loads of weight and am approaching target. However last night I set about sabotaging all my good work - eating and drinking anything in the house Blush
I am furious with myself and know that I am in danger of carrying on in this pattern now that I have fallen off the dieting wagon.

So ladies, how do I sort myself out. I have punished myself with back to back spin class and abs class this morning but I need to stay off the food and I am craving already Sad

Drink 2 pts water or wek squash NOW. Fills you up and helps a lot. Go for a walk. Chew gum.

Drinking water as I type. Thanks for the tip.
Will have to wait for my legs to recover bfore I can go for a walk. The spin class was a killer!

you could also write down why you think you binged - for lots of people eating is emotional..

I think that I am almost scared of hitting my target weight. I am a serial yoyo dieter and have never been able to maintain my weight after all the hard work.
It really is madness - almost like self harming. Why would I shovel in food when I know that it will make me unhappy?

WST - just doing the same and getting very very mad at myself; worked so hard to lose 2 stone, now carb-bingeing at night and have gained half a stone.
About to go on holiday for 2 weeks, quite stressed about holiday/restaurant food.

I lost weight partly by using a food diary, I'm going back to that method for another month - it really helped writing it down; would that work for you ?(time, quantity etc)
Also if you've got enough fruit in the house, make a big fruit salad - even if you eat loads it is lower calories than junk food and it tastes nice

WorldsSlowestTypist · 12/08/2010 17:21

Oh how wierd - I go away next week too. Perhaps there is an element of knowing it will all go pear shaped when we are away so feel like giving up already.
Fruit salad is a good idea so long as I can be trusued to go in the fridge!

Just printed out 3 weeks worth of food diaries (just a page with 7 days of boxes to fill in) - though i'm not a low-carb fan I'm going to try it while on holiday (Spain + France)as I reckon meat + salad + fruit will be less damaging than the bread etc.

Do you mind me asking where you're going? We'l be self-catering but we do eat out a lot and I find the restaurants grind down my resistance after a while. But I work in a school and absolutely don't want to go back in September and everyone see I've gone back to my old ways - they've been so supportive of me losing weight. Strangely, I never quite got to target either, and now its getting further away. Do you have much outstide support?

Will also be mumsnetting where possible, if I can wrest dd's laptop out of her hands occasionally

Undertone · 12/08/2010 17:53

Also - super-intense cardio workouts like spin will make you feel RAVENOUS afterwards because of the high amount of calories burned over a long period of time. If you binge then work out really hard to compensate, you will end up feeling unmanageably hungry after working out and it could kick off a horrible cycle.

Maybe just be a bit more forgiving towards yourself and less emotional about when you slip up. I feel an analogy coming on... If you think of the balance of healthy weight loss as a see-saw: you don't STAMP on one end to make the see-saw level - the other side will shoot up just as violently. Just press down gently. OK, so you've eaten too much, no biggie, just gently tweak your routine back into shape.

Does that make sense?

WorldsSlowestTypist · 12/08/2010 17:53

Spooky -I work in school too! I know what you mean about not wanting to look blobby in September.

We are self catering in Italy but I don't want it to spoil the holiday. We have all agreed to go screen free for 2 weeks so I won't be mumsnetting from the beach.

I am beginning to think about planning for my return. Perhaps doing Dukan because it has a clear consolidation and maintainance plan which might allow me to reach goal and stay there. Also thinking about booking a personal trainer session at the gym to get me back through the doors as soon as I get home.

Undertone - yes you make total sense. I just wish that I was that logical and balanced when it comes to dieting.

WST - think you also need to see your food intake not as a "diet" and not to have a specific figure as a "target" - apologies for using the quotes. But that way maybe you can fool yourself into not binging because there isn't a fixed target to go for.

My aim is to get into the correct BMI range for my height - I'm not quite there yet but I'm not stressing as I've been told that I look fab & I feel that my clothes fit well. Therefore I'm not worried about getting near to any "target" number. & I'm just eating sensibly (& hope to do so for the rest of my life).
