Help!

My cousin has pushed forward her wedding by 4 months and has just informed me she's bought me a size 6 - 8 bridesmaid dress!

No time for alterations when I'm there (wedding is in Australia) so I need to drop from a large 10 to a size 6 - 8 in about 4 weeks!

Tips please!! Confused

30 day shred! amazing x

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/08/2010 09:56

shouldn't she change it since she bought the wrong size??

(sorry no tips but am a bit Shock that she would buy one too small and then you're left trying to crash diet!!

Northernlight · 12/08/2010 09:57

Oooh yes I'll give it a go! Davina's Super Body Work Out is good too.

I have to be careful with my knee though having physio and not supposed to do anything that involved 'high impact' on the knee :(

liquoriceshakes · 12/08/2010 09:59

if you can't do any high impact stuff then that might not be any good for you- tell her to change the dress- i agree with fanjo she's being unreasonable Angry

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/08/2010 09:59

You can't do Shred then, it's really hard on the knees.

Surely she needs to buy you a dress in the correct size??? How ridiculous that she's bought you one that is too small.

Double check that it is a UK 6-8 and not an Aus. 6-8 as the sizing is different.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 12/08/2010 10:01

Tell her to swap it for a size 10. Why did she buy a size 6-8? If it's a 6-8 and you are a large 10 then you are having to drop very nearly two whole dress sizes in four weeks, which is crazy (a) in general and (b) if your knee problems restrict what exercise you can do.

Northernlight · 12/08/2010 10:13

She bought the dress in Paris (without checking my size first Angry )

I haven't seen her since I was 17 so i'm guessing she still thinks I'm tiny!

Annoyingly I believe she is now making her way back to Aus, but I'll try to see if she can change the dress size..

If I lay off the unhealthy snacks i'm sure I can drop a few pounds

:(

Ditch the carbs, last time I did it, lost 1 1/2 stone in 6 wks.

So no pasta/bread/rice. Eat everyting else (ok not v strict here re. cards in fruit/veg), after few days, appetite reduced, energy levels up, fantastic. Eat if hungry.

Graciescotland · 12/08/2010 10:26

Send her your measurements and ask her to take the dress around to a seamstress.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 12/08/2010 10:27

But I find a stone is approximately a dress size, and the OP has to lose nearly two dress sizes in four weeks (basically from a large 10 to a large 6) -- I just can't see how. One dress size, yes, I can see it might happen. But two? That's a dress size in a fortnight, and then doing the same thing over again.

Northernlight · 12/08/2010 10:28

Thanks Void, right i'll lay off the carbs, what about Ryvita?

Do you have any suggestions for breakfasts and lunch?

She needs to change the dress. She's done a silly thing.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/08/2010 10:34

I think you need to tell her that if she wants you to fit it you will have to lose 2 dress sizes. Then she will realise that this might not happen and she might have to arrange an alternative.

VoidofDiscovery · 12/08/2010 10:36

Ryvita is grain, so no. Think pre-agriculture, look up paeleo/caveman diet. Good website is MarksDailyApple.com (has got bit more commercial, but good articles, recipes). See also Gary Taubes for debunking low fat diets.

I am skipping breakfast at moment, not hungry. Can do eggs, bacon etc. I might do berries with cream (fat is good with this way of eating). No reason not to eat salad for breakfast if you wanted.

I snack on nuts/berries at first if hungry until you get over the insulin drops

There are low carb threads on MN too which will give ideas.

Also, are you prepared to potentially muck your metabolism forever more and end up bigger in the future for this one event. No harm trying to lose a few pounds, but trying to drop a couple of stone in 4 weeks isn't sustainable and will probably end in a weight regain eventually and a slower metabolism.

Healthy eating regime and a body wrap the day before may drop you a dress size, but she has cocked up and your future health shouldn't be jeopardised because of this.

Northernlight · 12/08/2010 12:01

It was really silly, she should have checked my size! Come to think of it, I'm not sure why she didn't. She is rushing around a bit though.

I reckon if I lose a stone I'd fit into a size 8. She's bought a size 36 which in UK is a size 8.

I've looked up the caveman diet, I'm thinking of following that for the next 4 weeks and cutting out all junk food.

She better have a back up dress waiting for me in case I still can't squeeze in!

Get her to book you a body wrap now for the day before the wedding -- may help with the last little bit.

Northernlight · 12/08/2010 12:09

Body wrap is a really good idea, thanks so much guys!

Graciescotland that's a really good idea actually! Thank you

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 12/08/2010 12:24

can she send the dress to you and you have it altered? It still may fit all wrong, even if you are theright 'size'.

WorldsSlowestTypist · 12/08/2010 12:53

I agree with ASecretLemonadeDrinker. Size 8 dresses vary a lot. There is no way of knowing if this is possible without trying the dress on. That way you also get to see the dress and decide whether it is worth the effort. Can you imagine losing all that weight and then hating the dress!

LC200 · 01/09/2010 08:44

How are you getting on with this?

I feel your pain, my friend bought me a size 10 bridesmaid dress and I was a big 12. The wedding was on Sunday, and I got in the dress after a couple of months of no snacking and hardcore exercise dvds or running every day.

I agree with the others though, size 8 dresses vary so much, so unless you are a very, very even shape it may not fit anyway! My dress was v big in the chest (I am a 30DD and it was far too big for me, I had to have extra help from chicken fillets.)

Good luck with it anyway, hope the wedding goes well!
