Insulin resistance?

I've been reading up on this and it seems pretty convincing. Has anyone tried following a diet for insulin resistance and had success? I've never been diagnosed with thsi but my 'symptoms' tick most of the boxes, and I have been tested for just about everything else!

Thanks, Riven, I haven't heard of him. What I've seen is low carb but not no carb. However it would mean some pretty drastic kitchen measures on my part (we eat an inordinate amount of pasta) which is why I thought it'd be worth checking out if it works, and in particular whether it's possible to stick to it without it being difficult/too restrictive.

I've doing the 'idiot proof diet' which is essentially low carb for about 2 months and have adjusted pretty well to no pasta / bread / rice / sugare.

It was lots easier than I thought and I've lost about a stone.

Thanks, Riven and Wohmum. I don't eat bread as I don't tolerate it very well, so it's really just pasta that is an issue - I do like the wholewheat stuff but not sure that the dc will so I can see that I will be cooking two lots. I'm not sure that I could do no carbs at all, but I like the idea of reducing them to a quarter. Need to get some brown rice recipes I think.

But can I live in a world without chocolate? Confused

(well done on your new weight, wohmum. Smile)

Hi Spiritmum,
After reading your OP I realised that that's what I was recommended by the naturopath/osteopath I started to go to mid-may because of my Thyroid problems and doctors messing up medication etc.
All he said I should eat were fruit, vegetables - preferably not cooked and meat + seeds and nuts - so no carbs, starchy vegetables or milk / dairy, no fruit juice etc. I've got gluten and lactose intolerance so wasn't eating lots of bread/pasta / milk anyway so didn't find it too difficult -missed my cheese a lot though.
Now 3 months later I feel much better, lots of energy, never feel hungry as can eat as much as I want, even my Thyroid results are much better.
Even though I never mentioned I wanted to loose weight - which I always wanted to do but never really managed - I lost 2 stones so far in 12 weeks so am very happy - still around 3 to go but hope to get there by Christmas.
If you have any questions / need support please let me know.

Thank you, swlondonnanny. Smile

I'm vegetarian so I couldn't eat meat - in fact I struggle a bit with low carb eating as when I turned veggie all the books recommended carb-based dishes - I'm having to unlearn it, IYSWIM.

I also have to consider that I have three dc and don't want to be faffing about cooking one meal for them and another for me. I don't eat a lot of dairy and try to avoid cows' milk products. I do feel I need some carbs, but not as much as I'm used to! Do you eat none at all? What about veg like sweetcorn and squash?

Wow on your weight loss - that's pretty amazing. I'm so glad that it's having such a positive effect on your health.

Hi spiritmum,
It must be really hard to be on low carb diet and be vegetarian - don't know how that could work. I am trying not to eat any animal proteins in the evenings and find it very hard. Mushrooms and green soy beans I find very goon. And chickpeas and lentils as well. Tofu could be good as well but haven't tried it yet, have to check if it's gluten free.
I don't eat any corn - well baby corn occasionally - maybe twice a month. Used to eat corn pasta but never liked it much.
Went to see a dietitian today - second time - and seem to be loosing around 2 pounds a week. She was very happy with it and even though I don't eat any carbs - other then vegetables and fruit - she told me to carry on with it as I am on essentially healthy diet and it works for me well. Going to see her again in 4 weeks, hope to be another 8 pounds lighter by then.
Good luck with you diet and let me know how you are getting on with it.
