Ok, I need SAHM/lone parents that are struggling to find time to exercise

I need to get down from 11st 5 (where does it all COME FROM??!) to 9st, ideally by Christmas, but definitely by next summer. I have bought the 30 day shred dvd, but am too scared to do it, citing lack of dumbbells as the reason, so want someone to kick my wobbly bum. Am just sick of people yelling "you should exercise more". I have no childcare, I cannot. So there. So I will stick my tongue out at you, place my thumb on my nose, and wiggle my fingers.

Other ladies that have no time for themselves, let us make time, let us get fabulous, and lets parade around in tight tops without having to tuck our tummies into our trousers. I want those jeans I cannot get my arm into!

I am also trying to find motivation and time to exercise properly. My DCs are 2.7 and 1.3 and my DH is away for work alot and works odd hours we are also moving in 2 weeks and immigrating to NZ in 6 weeks so its can't start a class or gym or anything and also don't have dvd player but could use laptop I suppose. Shred seems way too much for me at the moment ( I checked it out on u tube) I have lost 10 lbs by dieting (low carb in the past month) and have always been active in my youth but since coming to the uk nearly 10 years ago my lifestyle changed and my weight crept up.
I walk lots with my buggy and if I'm lucky DD jumps in which means I can stride it out other wise I have to walk toddler pace.
How old are your DCs?

LemonDifficult · 02/08/2010 18:09

Hello, can I join? All my non-child time is work time so I really can''t find the elusive exercise time either. (Nope, no lunch break!)

I thought I'd try getting a couple of dvds to do though. I'm just doing a bit of research. 30 day shred sounds terrifying but a friend recommended Yogalates and I quite like a dance about so maybe something hip-hop ish.

ChasingSquirrels · 02/08/2010 18:14

I got My Fitness Coach for the Wii in Jan and did it for a month but then let it lapse. I did it last night and am hoping to carry on (will-power anyone??)

I would like to go swimming, but seems mad to pay £10+ for a babysitter so I can swim for an hour.
I could go on the weekday morning when they boys are with their dad, but it would mean getting up even earlier than when they are here!
Our school have just started a breakfast club for Sep, and as ds2 starts school in Sep aswell I was debating sending them to that once or twice a week and going swimming on the way to work.
Just have to get my butt in gear.

MissPopOff · 02/08/2010 19:21

Same here! Single mum, no childcare in the evenings, desparate to lose weight. I have a walking machine which has just sat there for a few months as I am always too exhausted to use it!!

I have started with eating properly and I find drinking water helps with the huge belly I have. It went down dramatically within a week when drinking 2 litres a day so was obvisouly dehydrated.

Have given up alcohol and will be giving up smoking in September (various reasons).

Just don't want to give up this time and actually achieve my goals!!

Ladydutchalot · 02/08/2010 21:26

Ok, well, I've done day 1 of the 30 day shred, and am typing this before I shower as otherwise I will just slump in a heap on the sofa! I bought the 2kg handweights, as they were 20 euro a shot, and I didn't want to buy two sets. They weren't too bad, but I had to put them down on the third lot of weight work, and carry on empty handed!

The workout was, um, not great! I had to stop three times, which I got mad about, but made sure I paused the dvd, so I didn't miss anything (ok, I missed a fair amount, but less than if I hadn't paused it!) I am sweating like mad and wobbly, so tam taking that as a plus sign. Tomorrow is going to be the hard one, I don't want to do that again!!! This is the support bit-I always fall off the wagon on day 2-5!

I don't have a dvd player either febes, so I pop the laptop on the coffee table, and bring it down to the floor for the floor exercises. I also use towels for the floor work.

I moved country on Wednesday (from UK to the Netherlands), so have decided to use this year to really change my body shape. That way I can go back to the UK next July and people won't recognise me, the impact factor is really spurring me on! That and I just bought a size 8/10 wedding dress (we are getting married next September), so I need to look fab in it!

MissPopOff, I will start drinking 2 litres of water from tomorrow. Am doing the cereal diet for two weeks, and then going healthy from then on. I am also eating dinner from a large rimmed bowl, so that the food surface is the size of a side plate, but I feel that I'm eating from a dinner plate. I am actually finding the portion size sufficient, and am hoping it saves me from over-eating.

Dd starts school on 23rd Aug, but I start work on 1st Sept, so apart from that one week I think dvds are to be my exercise of choice. Am tempted to also buy Billy Bootcamp or something, but am very interested in the dance ones too if anyone can recommend them.

Chasing squirrels, I tried doing that last term and never did. I just went for coffee instead, and then felt dreadful about it. You need to let us know the days you are going to swim, and then come on that evening and tell us that you went, then you will feel so fab about yourself! On the odd occasions I did go (it still makes me cringe to think of the money I wasted on gym subscriptions and breakfast club subscriptions that we didn't get out of the house in time for) I used floats to really work my arms and legs, and get the most out of it.

While in the sports shop we also bought two tennis racquets (dd is particularly proud of hers) and a football, so that we can do some sport during the day. Dd is 6 and a whirling dervish. We live in a studio apartment, so have to go out come rain or shine, so instead of me just sitting watching her play in the park, I thought these were a good option to couple with the park trip. It also means we go to the parks that we have to cycle to, as they are the ones with the tennis courts and football nets. It is amazing what we are fitting in with such small changes.

Come on girls, I want to hear exactly what you have done today! To Skinnyness!! I want to be so proud of my ladies!!

Me too please. Am LP, no childcare and no transport which you would think would help but actually means its difficult to get to nice places to walk etc.
No idea how much I weigh as have no scales but I am too fat. I have been healthy for a week or so and really cut back on portions but have lapsed the last few days, no idea why.
I have the "Getting back your body after childbirth" dvd and that's it. No machine, no Wii or anything. I do know however that tins of beans are 1lb and water bottles around 2lb if you want to save money

I also have no money so cycling, swimming etc is out for the moment, I'm a goodish way from the facilities anyway. I just need to keep on track with small healthy portions and staying active and I think it'll come off. Not sitting mumsnetting all evening would have been a start!

2l of water a day from tomorrow. I am also going to try apple cider vinegar, I use it for everything else and its sposed to be good for weightloss.

Tippychoocks · 02/08/2010 21:35

oh ladydutch, just re-read your last post. Don't forget to weigh your cereal. I bought some of those mini-boxes for camping and they are the size that the calorie count is based on but put them in a bowl and I guarantee that most of us eat at least 3 time that amount. It's scary how I thought for ages I was eating 170 calories for breakfast and I could have tripled it and been closer!

Ladydutchalot · 02/08/2010 22:17

Tippy, you are so right!!

I've decided from the start to have a big enough bowl of cereal to be properly full. I'm not calorie counting per se, just making sure I'm eating one good bowl of granola instead of peanut butter/choc spread on three slices of white bread for breakfast, followed by a mini roll and packet of crisps at 11am, 2 cheese on white bread sandwiches and some biscuits at 1pm, then a big dinner and ice cream at 6pm, with a packet of minstrels spattered in between. (This is an example, not a normal day, I think !). The treats had crept into my diet and become a mainstay, so this is more a think about what I'm eating couple of weeks, as opposed to a "diet". And I know granola isn't the best, but it fills me up and keeps me full, as opposed to rice krispies/special k etc (and it does have a tiny bit of choc in it too, so the choc cravings go ). Am getting to the point where I look at bad things and think "no, I don't want you in my body, as you are no good for me", which is what I wanted to achieve.

And another thing I have found. Do the dvd/whatever as soon as the children are asleep. If I sit down I am DONE FOR! Mn as much as you like AFTER your workout, as then you deserve it. I will never get off my butt if I sit down, but if I can just use the last bit of adrenaline from the bedtime routine to get that dvd on, then the endorphines will get you through the 20 mins of workout, and you will feel SO much better for it!

Tippychoocks · 02/08/2010 22:30

I read a tip in a really old book that said to lose weight, drink loads of water, eat your smallest meal in the evening and do something active around the house everytime you would normally sit down to a cuppa and a hobnob. So you would turn out the airing cupboard or sort out your kitchen presses or something to keep active.
I'm thinking I will try that approach and do the DVD at bedtime (kids not mine). So I will have to limit any telly/computer/book time and listen to the radio instead.

At the worse I will have a tidy house!

Ladydutchalot · 02/08/2010 22:39

I think you have something there Tippy. I have been sitting down around 10pm each night, as the new house has needed some serious cleaning (maggot infestations, eurgh!), and I feel so much better for it!

I didn't know you could get workouts online, think that will defnitely motivate me.

Ate healthily today, but still no exercise. Just one of those busy days again.

I agree, once DD is in bed, I will not sit down on laptop, will do a workout.

Also there is a workout channel on Sky - Fitness TV Channel 282, do workouts through the day.

Good luck everyone x

Tippychoocks · 08/08/2010 22:37
