Most women gain 10lbs between 40-50 years old?

I've been reading that the average woman gains around 10lbs in her 40s (if not eating 500k a day less, or doing much more exercise etc).

Is the really so?

I do weight train, not my favourite thing in the world

This is true of a lot of woman -but if you make it more into your plan the butt will becaome pert and the thighs will not bulge

Go and and get a good plan from a personel trianer that you can do two or three times a week and add it to your plan and then do cardio inbetween days

You can always fill and botox if you so desire, Bagged.

The vain part of me would love to pull on size 8 jeans and for them to feel roomy. (I've never been able to apart from a brief period around 16/17 when I ate more unhealthily than I ever have in my entire life. Existed only on junk food and never gained a pound)! I could eat a room full of McDonalds back then, seriously, and not gain an ounce. I frequently did. I would eat a McDonalds on the way home from school and then about 6 packets of biscuits and/or crisps.

Running does a lot for the arse and the thighs. I need to so some weights for my upper arms though.

Hi again Ivy, I have and I do re: weights.

I have a PT who pushes me to hell (with the strength, and the squats and the split lunges) and back (even though eye wateringly expensive but the creeping pounds were the incentive). Twice a week though, I fear it should be more.

I run twice a week too, sometimes 3 times. 5k on average each time.

Met a male friend who is training for a 10k, he said it's great you can have pudding all the time! I thought, damn it, I really can't, if I do on go the pounds...Tis not fair.

Still the bum is flabby and I have cellulite, just not the same as at 30. I fear this is just ageing.

your body gets used to the runnign though - and then it will coast some.. Try moving things around to confuse your body a bit.

what are you eating though?

I will do a hour spin and use 780 cals or 2 hours cycling and use 1200 - 1400 then the other dyas do weights for 45 minutes and swim

What should I be eating? What's the ideal?

I haven't been eating enough I fear since the creeping on of the recent pounds. This of course leads me into a vicious circle, I know.. Usually I have fruit and oatmeal in the morning, half a handful of flaked nuts and seeds, sometimes small yoghurt too. Snack on a apple, then I have chicken salad maybe with a boiled potato (medium) at lunch and follow by Fish and steamed veg and sometimes small brown rice.

Told you it was boring

eggs - omlette and mushrooms with kippers for breakast?

Or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon (I buy the ends at sainsbury cheap)

Wholemeal or granary bread with a mashed banan on top

A few bananas and strawberries? A punet of blueberries with a drink midmorning

A milkshake - homemade with ice cubes and frozen mixed berries - add a yogurt if you want or milk

Yes I did around the waits mainly. Have managed tolose most of it over the last few months by eating healthily. Have always exercised. Gone are the days of Big macs!

Its my birthday today and I am 45 years old, but I have been told twice recently that I look 35

I believe that it has a lot to do with diet, I am fairly healthy in what I eat but I have to battle to keep myself at a consistent weight, I eat smaller portions etc than I used to, and if I drink wine I might as well have just but a pound of butter on each hip!!

I run or cycle 2/3 times per week as well as using the shredding DVD, which I find has really toned up the flabby abby area, yeah

So in conclusion it is not always inevitable that one will gain weight/lose tone in their 40s, but you do have to be prepared to battle against it, but is is definitely doable.
