Cost of Wedding Photographer

Can anyone of you share with me how much it costs roughly for the wedding photographer?

Do they all charge a fee for the day and then charge separately for prints ordered afterwards?

I like the idea of a one off fee and the photographer then provides the pictures on a disk/electronically so the couple and family can print what they like as much as they like. Has anyone come across this type of service before?

Thanks

Hiya, I think we paid about £800 for 6 hours. We got all the pics on DVD so we could share - it's very common nowadays. You just have to make sure that they don't copyright the electronic versions (ie cover them in a watermark so you can't print). It was another £500 for the album which we didn't bother with.

We did a lot of research and found photographers between 700 and 2000 euros (roughly 500 and 1700 pounds i think).

They usually offered standard packages, you decide when they arrive and when they leave, ie. preparations, ceremony, photos of the couple, drinks, meal, disco, etc.

Depending on how long they stay influences how many photos you have at the end. Then in the package they include a photo album/photo book and/or a DVD with photos (agree with PP make sure the DVD is not copyrighted otherwise you can't print any off) and often some blow ups.

Basically we found you can ask for any combination you want and they quote you a price.

Our photographer is costing 800 euros and will take photos from 2pm until 9pm plus photo album (roughly 60 photos printed) plus a DVD (roughly 150 photos).

Depending on their selling point, their printoffs can be very cheap (especially if you get 3 identical albums for example) or else it can be fairly pricey because they don't want can't be arsed to print off the photos

My sis paid £1000 for 12 hours, a gorgeous leather bound large album with 100 photos, 2 small leather bound albums with 30 photos for IL's and P's and a cd with all photos on. It was a great deal for what she got. Someone got a canvas made of her favourite photo as a wedding present. website here if you want a look or some ideas of what to ask for. She is on there.

She stayed for 12 hours to get 'getting ready' shots and then some sunset ones at the end.

Anywhere between £300 to £3000...!

They all offer different "packages" but most will be happy to offer the sort of deal you are talking about - might be a surprisingly high price though since a lot of them count on making their profit on the prints/album so if they are not providing that they will up the price elsewhere.

I'm sure this is obvious, but do focus on the quality of their work and whether they do the kind of photos you like (and whether you like them as a person!) rather than on the package - since most can be flexible with the package.

Google the WPJA for some really excellent wedding photographers (on the steep side though price-wise).

Thank you for replies - Hellbent - there are some really beautiful pictures on that website - just not sure if that is the style I am after though. Whilst the images are very artistic and technically excellent - I think they are trying too hard to be impressive at the expense of actually capturing the spirit of the day.

I am so surprised at how expensive photographers can be and very difficult to know that you will get what you want in advance.

Just noticed your reply, the pictures on there are the photographers favourites, the albums are different but look really good. Hers is like a story, from getting ready and pics getting in the car, to the wedding, reception and first dance, and then the last one is walking in to the sunset. It sounds a bit cheesy but she had a beautiful location for it. I think the parents and inlaws just had their own favourites in the album.

And they were a mix of modern and traditional

heather1980 · 06/05/2010 17:01

we paid about £1600 for ours. we had 2 photographers one at the venue and one at mine going the getting ready pictures. the 2nd one left after the 'main' pics were done (a mix of modern and traditional) and the other one stayed till after the 1st dance.
we got 100 pics bound in a leather album, 3 large prints and an engagement sitting when we booked her.
we didn't get a cd/dvd but did get over 400 pics of the day. which i have still to put in an album

Hey Domestic

If what you're after is less arty and more spirit of the day (i.e. photojournalist/ reportage style) - I would highly recommend our photographer Julie Kim.

The WPJA website has lots of photojournalist wedding photographers - do take a look!

most photographers will have standard packages but can tailor to suit you. They also tend to offer a CD for you to print what you want although this is usually at a price as they do lose their copyright this way. My friend used a really good photographer his site is phillawrencephoto.co.uk

Good luck in finding someone.

Our photographer was fantastic and charged £400 for a CD with all the pics on. He started at the house with a few photos of me before leaving for church, got to church before me and took some of the church and bagpiper and stayed took photos right through to the reception. I'd happily recommend him if you live anywhere near me. But you can pay as much as you have to spend!
