Confetti … please advise me MN

Hello - I’ve been asked to take care of the confetti for my niece’s wedding. I’d been begging for something to do and was delighted to have a task. But I’d no idea it was so complicated or expensive! Now I’m not at all sure that up I’m up to the task (lighthearted - pls don’t explain to me that confetti is not a grave matter :).

Would be very grateful for some advice. What’s the cheapest /best value place to buy biodegradable, paper confetti? Is some paper confetti better quality ie do some types of paper confetti float more slowly than others? Is it ok to buy my own bags and fill them, and will this work out cheaper? Where can I get nice bags that are not too small so that each guest gets more than one handful of confetti?

Thank you in advance for any thoughts or advice.

At my cousin’s wedding there were bags of dried lavender to throw instead - is your niece certain she wants paper confetti?

First of all check with the venue what they allow. Some have quite strict rules. Ours allowed freeze dried petals (yep, as expensive as it sounds) but nothing dyed including paper in case of staining.

Hi, thanks for the responses. Yes, the venue allows biodegradable confetti. My niece agrees that petals are nicer than paper but she really wants a lovely confetti shot and the photographer has advised that paper makes for the best photograph. Hence all my questions about paper.

You were begging for something to do at a wedding

I would have coloured paper confetti in brown paper cones. Then you can make the cones yourself and fasten them with a sticker. It’s easier to get out than bags and colour paper will look nice in the photos.

Dried flower petals don’t flutter.

Thanks @UserNineNineI’m worried. about how to transport cones though. The venue’s in London - we’ll all be visiting from outside of London. So I’ll need to pack the cones into a suitcase. I fear spillage - bags might be more practical.

Cute paper envelopes? Unethical but temu do dried flower petals

CakeAndConfetti · 13/06/2026 21:42

Hadn’t thought of paper envelopes- I’ll investigate, thank you.

Paper looks better because it flutters and it’s pastels. You could buy light coloured petals?

I’d been begging for something to do and was delighted to have a task Are you a child OP? 😕

Begging aside, I'm surprised they are expecting YOU to pay for the confetti! I asked my cousin to be an usher and also hand out bubble blowers, but I paid for them, not her! Our venue stipulated no rice, confetti or things other than bubbles.

If money is tight, depending when it is, you could consider getting fresh rose petals and drying them. Ask on nextdoor.com/market place if anyone local to you has some you could pick.rivercottage.net/eco-confetti-for-your-wedding/

At my son's wedding we made vellum envelopes and put biodegradable paper confetti inside, sealed with a seal with the bride and groom's initials. The envelopes were put inside the Orders of the Day so everyone had one to throw at the appropriate time.
